Cabasse, established in 1950 in Brittany, builds the Bora as a three-way bookshelf model whose design is centred on a coaxial midrange and tweeter. Cabasse presents it as a model with the dynamic capability and precision expected of a monitor, combined with the wide listening area of the brand's coaxial speakers. The list price on the Cabasse site is EUR 1,250.
Key specs that matter
The BC13 coaxial unit covers the midrange and treble, combining a 12 cm annular midrange with a 2.7 cm dome tweeter, and the bass comes from a 21 cm Duocell woofer. Cabasse rates the frequency response at 52 Hz to 24,000 Hz and efficiency at 90 dB for 1 W at 1 m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, falling to a minimum of 4.1 ohms. Nominal power is 120 W and peak power is 840 W. The cabinet measures 50 x 27 x 33 cm, the speaker weighs 15 kg, and the finish is black lacquer. Cabasse lists shelf and stand mounting as its intended uses.
Engineering and use context
The BC13 sits at the centre of the TC23 triaxial driver fitted to the Cabasse reference systems La Sphère and L'Océan, and it is assembled and checked in the company's workshops in Brittany. The Duocell cone of the woofer was designed by Cabasse and is produced by Cabasse robots. It is very light and very stiff, well damped, and has an exponential profile with a variable thickness, so that it can make full use of long-throw motors with a high force factor. The filters are tuned using the Cabasse anechoic chamber protocol, which records measurements on the listening axis and at 360 degrees to control directivity and total radiated power in line with the SCS principles. Tuning also involved many listening sessions in rooms with different acoustics. The resulting filter slopes vary from 6 to 24 dB per octave and take the shape of the cabinet into account.
Pairing
Cabasse makes dedicated floor stands for its bookshelf speakers in matt black and matt white finishes. They hide the cables and are rated to hold bookshelf models of up to 50 kg. The brand also offers the Amp 240 S, a connected stereo amplifier intended to drive passive loudspeakers. It comes in a satin black aluminium finish, has a TV input and a colour LCD touchscreen with a volume ring on the front, and joins the Cabasse multi-room system so that sources can be grouped into zones.
Alternatives
The Cabasse Antigua MC170 is a smaller three-way bookshelf model with a 10T15MC coaxial midrange tweeter and a 17 cm woofer.
