The L/R M is the middle pair of the L/R active speaker range from Cambridge Audio, placed between the compact L/R S and the larger L/R X. It was designed and engineered in London, with styling by Ged Martin, and was announced for late summer 2026 at GBP 1,199, USD 1,599 and EUR 1,399 per pair, or GBP 1,299, USD 1,699 and EUR 1,499 in Real Walnut. A streamer, DAC, amplifiers and a phono stage are all housed inside the two cabinets.
Key specs that matter
Each box is a 2.5-way design built around a 28 mm Torus tweeter whose dual-radius aluminium dome has 25 percent more surface area than a conventional 25 mm dome. Two 4 inch woofers share the low range - one on the baffle and one in the base - and two 4.75 inch force-cancelling passive radiators sit on the side panels. Class D amplification gives 150 W per speaker, 300 W for the pair, and the quoted response runs from 40 Hz to 24 kHz within 3 dB. A cabinet measures 158 mm wide, 263 mm high and 190 mm deep, and the primary unit weighs 6.2 kg against 5.4 kg for the secondary. Six finishes are offered - Real Walnut, orange, green, blue, white and black - each with a tweeter dome tinted to match.
Engineering and use context
The two woofers are given different crossover points - the front driver handles upper bass and lower midrange, while the downward-firing unit is left with only the deepest frequencies. Because the passive radiators face in opposite directions, their motion cancels out and the enclosure stays steady instead of rocking on its shelf. Processing runs in a 64-bit pipeline with DynamEQ for volume-compensated playback, plus speaker protection and Normal, Movie and Voice modes chosen in the StreamMagic app. Through StreamMagic Gen 4 the pair plays internet radio and Deezer, plus Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect, is Roon Ready and accepts AirPlay 2, Google Cast and UPnP, with file playback up to DSD256. Network access uses dual-band Wi-Fi 5 or Ethernet, and Bluetooth carries SBC and AAC. Left and right talk to each other over a supplied 5 m USB-C lead at 24 bit and 96 kHz. A Bluetooth LE handset controls the pair, and a white LED strip with adjustable colour temperature under the cabinet can be switched off.
Pairing
HDMI eARC takes a television, the moving-magnet phono input accepts a turntable directly, USB-C audio serves a computer, USB-A reads media drives, and optical plus RCA line inputs cover CD players or other sources. An RCA subwoofer output allows a powered sub to be added later.
Alternatives
The Cambridge Audio L/R X is the bigger pair in the same range, using 5 inch woofers and 400 W per speaker.
