The Focus 10 is the compact standmount model of the current Focus series from Danish maker Dynaudio, sitting below the Focus 30 and Focus 50 towers. It is a two-way active speaker with built-in streaming, amplification and conversion, and Dynaudio says it draws on lessons from its earlier Focus XD, Xeo, LYD and Core ranges. The US price was USD 5,500 per pair, and finishes are black high gloss, white high gloss, blonde wood and walnut wood.
Key specs that matter
Inside each speaker are a 28 mm Cerotar coated soft-dome tweeter with a Hexis inner dome and a 14 cm Esotec+ mid/bass cone moulded in one piece from magnesium silicate polymer. Class D Pascal modules give 280 W to the cone and 110 W to the tweeter, 390 W per speaker. Dynaudio quotes 43 Hz to 22 kHz within 3 dB at 85 dB, and a dynamic -6 dB range of 22 Hz to 36 kHz. Each box is 180 mm wide, 315 mm high and 261 mm deep, or 276 mm deep with the grille, and weighs 7.5 kg. Maximum power draw is 280 W, with 2 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Dynaudio chose a sealed box with no reflex port. A two-way DSP crossover near 2,200 Hz lets the processor set slope, driver phase and relative output for each unit. The amplifier platform is derived from the Core professional reference monitors. The tweeter uses a strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet, while the mid/bass unit gains a longer throw and an improved magnet system. Dynamic Bass Extension, adjustable in the app, works together with a DSP sliding high-pass filter that limits cone excursion at high volume. The two speakers link over WiSA at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz, or through an RCA cable at 24 bit and 192 kHz. A magnetic grille is sensed automatically and the DSP adapts its EQ when it is fitted.
Pairing
Wired inputs are two analogue RCA, one Toslink optical and one RCA coaxial, alongside Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.2. There is no HDMI or USB audio input, so a TV must connect by optical. Streaming covers Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Roon, UPnP and Qplay. A dedicated subwoofer RCA output applies an automatic failsafe high-pass filter to reduce woofer excursion when a sub is used, and a trigger output lets connected equipment power up in step with the speakers.
Alternatives
The Dynaudio Confidence 20A is another active standmount speaker, listed by the maker in the same Digital group of its home audio range.
