The Bronze 100 is the bigger bookshelf model in the sixth-generation Bronze series from Monitor Audio, the British company based in Rayleigh, Essex. The 6G Bronze range appeared in 2020 and now sits on the Heritage pages of the company's website. Bronze is the entry series of the brand, below Silver, Gold and Platinum, and this two-way speaker uses the same 8-inch mid-bass size as the pair of drivers in the Bronze 500 floorstander.
Key specs that matter
An 8-inch C-CAM mid-bass driver with DCM and a 25 mm C-CAM gold dome tweeter with a UD Waveguide are crossed over at 2.2 kHz. At -6 dB, the response runs from 52 Hz to 25 kHz free-field and from 37 Hz to 30 kHz in-room. Sensitivity is 87 dB, impedance is 8 ohms nominal with a 4.5 ohm minimum, and maximum output is 110 dBA for a pair. Power handling is 100 W, with 30 to 100 W recommended. The cabinet measures 376 x 231 x 325 mm and weighs 7.8 kg. Finishes are Black, White, Walnut and Urban Grey.
Engineering and use context
C-CAM stands for ceramic-coated aluminium and magnesium alloy, a material Monitor Audio uses for both cones and tweeter domes to combine low mass with stiffness. The UD, or Uniform Dispersion, waveguide in front of the gold dome controls how the tweeter spreads sound. A HiVe II port on the rear, which is rifled inside to speed the air flow, supports the bass. The cabinet uses 15 mm MDF panels with a painted 21 mm front baffle and internal bracing. Each driver is held by a single bolt that runs through the cabinet to the rear panel. Bi-wire terminals are fitted. The crossover point is lower than the 2.7 kHz used for the tweeter of the Bronze 500, and power handling is half that of the floorstander. The in-room bass limit is lower than the free-field figure because the measurement in a room includes the gain from nearby walls and floor.
Pairing
Its moderate sensitivity and a load that dips well below its nominal value make the Bronze 100 a match for mainstream integrated amplifiers. The rear port benefits from some space to the wall behind. Rigid stands suit the cabinet, and the 8-inch driver gives enough bass for many rooms of about 20 m2 without a subwoofer. It is 56 mm taller than the Gold 50 6G, although the Bronze 100 weighs 0.7 kg less.
Alternatives
The Monitor Audio Bronze 50 6G is the compact Bronze bookshelf model, using a 5.5-inch driver with 85 dB sensitivity and weighing 5 kg.
