The JBL VIBE BEAM 2 is a true wireless noise cancelling earphone that adds active noise cancelling to the VIBE BEAM stem design. JBL quotes up to 40 hours of total playback with ANC off when the charging case is included, and the case itself carries an IPX2 rating so it can be taken out in light rain.

Key specs that matter

The earbuds use 8 mm dynamic drivers. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, impedance 16 ohm, sensitivity 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz and maximum SPL 95 dB. With Bluetooth on the earbuds play up to 10 hours with ANC off or up to 8 hours using ANC, while the case stores three further full charges worth 30 hours. Talk time is up to 6 hours with ANC off and 5.5 hours with ANC on. Each earbud weighs 4.3 g, or 8.6 g for the pair, and measures 32.4 x 22 x 23.3 mm. The case weighs 41 g and measures 64.3 x 25.8 x 48 mm.

Engineering and use context

Four microphones, two on each earbud, pick up the voice for calls and cancel surrounding noise, and their rated sensitivity is -38 dBV/Pa at 1 kHz. Smart Ambient controls how much of the surroundings comes through, so a conversation is possible without taking the earbuds out. The earbuds are IP54 rated against water and dust. Bluetooth 5.3 supports A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.8, with transmitter power under 12 dBm EIRP in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz band. Each earbud contains a 50 mAh 3.85 V lithium-ion battery, while the case uses a 550 mAh 3.7 V cell. A full charge from empty takes 2 hours over USB Type-C at 5 V 1 A, and 10 minutes of charging gives about 3 hours of playback. Maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C. The JBL Headphones app provides EQ presets or a custom curve, voice prompts in several languages, and a Relax Mode with five background sounds such as ocean waves. The package adds a Type-C charging cord and three sizes of ear tips, plus printed setup and safety papers. The earbuds are controlled by tapping, which covers hands-free call handling.

Pairing

The VIBE BEAM 2 stores up to 8 Bluetooth devices and stays connected to two at the same time through multi-point. Android devices pair with a single tap thanks to Google Fast Pair support, and Windows computers do the same through Microsoft Swift Pair. The radio uses GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8DPSK modulation.
