The Tune Buds Ghost Edition is JBL's see-through take on its Tune Buds earbuds, documented on a 2023 Harman specification sheet. Clear plastic lets the internal parts of the earpieces and the charging case show, while the acoustic hardware, ANC system and battery layout follow the regular Tune Buds.
Key specs that matter
The transducer in each earpiece is a 10 mm dynamic unit. JBL rates it at 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 32 ohm and 101 dB SPL at 1 kHz, and the maximum level reached is 93 dB SPL. Per earbud the weight is 5.4 g, giving 10.8 g for both, and the translucent case comes in at 44 g, slightly heavier than the solid-colour version. Battery life is quoted as 48 hours in total - 12 hours from the earbuds and 36 from the case without ANC, or 10 and 30 hours when noise cancelling runs. For phone calls JBL lists 6.6 hours, dropping to 6 hours with ANC. The cells are lithium-ion, rated 70 mAh at 3.85 V inside each earbud and 750 mAh at 3.7 V in the case. A complete charge takes 2 hours, and a quick 15 minute top-up is worth 4 hours of playback. Both the earpieces and the case carry IP54 protection against rain, sweat and dust.
Engineering and use context
The bud housing uses an oval tube designed to match the shape of the ear canal entrance, giving passive isolation that the active circuit then extends. The Ghost sheet describes the call pickup as dual microphones, with a sensitivity of -38 dBV/Pa, and VoiceAware decides how much of the user's voice is mixed back in during a call. The Smart Ambient function has an Ambient Aware mode for hearing traffic and announcements and a TalkThru mode for brief exchanges with the buds still in place. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.3, the left and right earpieces are fed independently in sync, so one bud alone is enough for calls or podcasts, and JBL promised LE Audio and streaming to several listeners through a future firmware update. Radio output stays under 11 dBm EIRP in the 2.4 to 2.4835 GHz band, with GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8-DPSK modulation. The companion JBL Headphones app handles gesture mapping, a find-my-buds function and the Smart Audio and Video settings. JBL states a maximum working temperature of 45 C.
Pairing
A2DP v1.3.2, AVRCP v1.6.2 and HFP v1.8 cover music streaming, remote control and voice calls from smartphones, tablets and computers. Power for the case comes from a 5 V 1 A USB charger over the included Type-C lead, and the package holds ear tips in three sizes as well.
