JBL's Tune Buds are a pair of noise cancelling true wireless earbuds from the Tune family, released under a 2022 Harman data sheet. Unlike the stem-shaped Tune Beam, they use a compact rounded bud shell with no stem, and a later Ghost Edition put the same hardware into see-through housings.
Key specs that matter
Every bud houses a dynamic transducer of 10 mm. Rated frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, impedance is 32 ohm, and sensitivity reaches 101 dB SPL at 1 kHz with a maximum output of 93 dB SPL. A single bud weighs 5.4 g and the pair 10.8 g, while the case weighs 42 g. The full 48 hour figure splits into 12 hours in the buds plus 36 from the case when ANC is off, or 10 plus 30 with noise cancelling active. Calls last up to 6.6 hours, or 6 hours with ANC. Each bud holds a 70 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery at 3.85 V, and a 750 mAh cell at 3.7 V sits in the case. Two hours bring the set back from empty, and 15 minutes of Speed Charge give 4 hours of listening. The IP54 rating covers both splashing water and dust.
Engineering and use context
JBL says the bud form factor and an oval tube shaped to the ear create a passive seal, which the Active Noise Cancelling then builds on. Four microphones serve hands-free calls in stereo, and the microphone sensitivity is quoted as -38 dBV/Pa. In Smart Ambient, the Ambient Aware setting admits outside sound, while TalkThru turns the music down so the wearer can speak to someone without removing the buds. VoiceAware controls how much of the caller's own voice returns into the earpieces. Bluetooth 5.3 sends a synchronized stream to each bud independently, so a single bud can be worn on its own, and LE Audio with multi-listener sharing was listed as arriving by over-the-air update. The radio transmits below 11 dBm between 2.4 and 2.4835 GHz using GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8-DPSK. Through the JBL Headphones app the owner can reassign touch controls, find a misplaced bud and choose the Smart Audio and Video modes. JBL gives 45 C as the upper operating temperature.
Pairing
Supported profiles are A2DP v1.3.2, AVRCP v1.6.2, HFP v1.8 and DID v1.3, so the Tune Buds connect to Bluetooth handsets, tablets and notebook computers for both music and calls. The case charges from a 5 V 1 A source through USB Type-C, and three sizes of ear tips come in the box.
Alternatives
The JBL Tune Beam uses the same ANC, microphone count and battery split in a stem housing with a 6 mm driver and 16 ohm impedance.
