JBL released the Tune 760NC as a closed-back wireless headset that covers the whole ear and adds ANC, placed in the Tune series that forms the affordable end of the Harman-owned brand's headphone range. Its spec sheet carries a 2021 copyright. The package combines ANC, a foldable frame, Google Fast Pair, multi-point Bluetooth and a detachable cable, so the set can also run passively from a jack socket.

Key specs that matter

Sound comes from a pair of 40 mm dynamic drivers. JBL rates the frequency response at 20 Hz to 20 kHz and the impedance at 32 ohm, and it gives two sensitivity figures - 103 dB SPL/1mW in passive mode and 95 dB SPL/1mW in active mode, with a maximum SPL of 95 dB. The battery is a 610 mAh, 3.7 V lithium-ion polymer pack. With Bluetooth and ANC both running it lasts 35 hours, switching ANC off stretches that to 50 hours, a full top-up from empty needs less than 2 hours, and five minutes of charging yields about 2 more hours. The radio is Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.5 and HFP 1.6 profiles, operating from 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz at under 10 dBm transmit power. The headset weighs 220 g, and power input is 5 V at 1 A.

Engineering and use context

The ANC circuit is aimed at reducing low-frequency ambient noise. JBL publishes separate sensitivity values for passive and active operation, and the gap between them is 8 dB. Google Fast Pair links the headset to an Android phone with a single tap, and further devices can be added simply by tapping on their screens, and multi-point lets two Bluetooth sources stay connected, so a phone call can take over from a film on a tablet. A single button on the earcup handles playback, calls and the phone voice assistant. The microphone sensitivity is -30 dBV/Pa, and the maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C. The box includes the headphones, a Type-C USB charging lead, a 1.2 m removable analogue lead, the QSG, and separate warranty and safety leaflets.

Pairing

Any Bluetooth phone, laptop or tablet is a suitable source, and Android users get the fastest setup through Fast Pair. Plugged into a headphone jack, the cable keeps the set working after the cell is drained, and the low impedance suits the headphone outputs of ordinary phones, notebooks and handheld players.
