Meze Audio designed the STRADA as a sealed, circumaural model with a dynamic driver. It borrows its transducer platform from the 109 PRO but retunes it for a sealed enclosure, and its chassis follows the structural approach of the LIRIC. Meze set the list price at USD 799, or EUR 799 in Europe, and describes the build as fully serviceable, so worn parts can be replaced rather than the whole headphone.
Key specs that matter
Each cup carries a 50 mm dynamic driver. Meze quotes a frequency response of 5 Hz to 30 kHz, a sensitivity of 111 dB at 1 kHz with 1 mW, an impedance of 40 ohm and distortion under 0.1 percent at 1 kHz. The headphone weighs 330 g. The detachable cable plugs into both cups through dual 3.5 mm TS sockets, and the package holds the cable, a carry case, a cable pouch and a 6.3 mm jack adapter.
Engineering and use context
The diaphragm combines two materials - a dome of cellulose reinforced with carbon fibre and a surround made from a semicrystalline polymer torus with a beryllium PVD coating. Grooves cut at 45.5 degrees into the surface are there to manage resonances, and a stabiliser ring of copper-zinc alloy absorbs small vibrations around the driver. Meze reworked the tuning of this driver specifically for closed-back loading, where the sealed volume behind the diaphragm affects bass control and gives isolation from outside noise, which makes the STRADA usable at home as well as on the move. The ear cups are Macassar ebony, chosen for mechanical stability, and are assembled by hand, so the grain and colour differ from pair to pair. They hang from a light magnesium frame finished in a multi-layer metallic deep green paint. Ear pads attach with magnets, which makes swapping or replacing them quick and keeps the seal consistent each time they are refitted. The headband is softly padded with a symmetrical cushion pattern that spreads pressure evenly across the head.
Pairing
Its easy electrical load allows the STRADA to reach adequate level from portable sources and modest desktop units, so a high-power headphone amplifier is not required. With the adapter in the box, the stock lead connects to both portable and home equipment, while a balanced connection needs an aftermarket cable with matching plugs at the cup end.
Alternatives
The Meze LIRIC 2nd Generation is a closed-back over-ear model using the Rinaro Isodynamic Hybrid Array MZ4 driver, rated at 61 ohm, 100 dB and 427 g.
