The ARTA is a circumaural open-back model made by Meze Audio of Baia Mare, Romania, where it is also manufactured. Meze presented it publicly at High End Vienna on June 4th 2026 as a new reference model, with a suggested price of USD 6,000 or EUR 6,000. The design language mixes Art Nouveau styling with flowing organic shapes that the company calls bionic fluidity.
Key specs that matter
Meze, whose range also covers closed-back models such as the Strada and in-ear models such as the Astru, fits the ARTA with a Rinaro High Impedance Isodynamic Hybrid Array MZ5 HΩ, a planar magnetic unit built for a higher load than most headphones of this type. Average impedance is 225 ohm and sensitivity is 98 dB. Meze lists a frequency range of 3 Hz to 115 kHz and total harmonic distortion below 0.05 percent. The finished headphone weighs 495 g. The box contains two sets of swappable earpads and two cables, one ending in a single-ended 6.3 mm plug and one in a balanced 4-pin XLR connector.
Engineering and use context
Construction combines precision metal parts, carbon fibre and leather. Inside the grille sit angled acoustic blades, which Meze uses to cut down internal reflections behind the driver. Every part of the headphone can be taken apart, from the earpads and headband to the drivers and the earcups, so each component can be serviced or replaced over the years instead of the whole unit being retired. The standard warranty runs for two years and grows to four years once the owner registers the product. Since the back is open, sound passes freely in both directions through the grille, so the ARTA fits private listening in a calm room far better than travel or an open-plan workplace. The swappable pad sets let the owner change the contact material and the distance between driver and ear without tools, and a worn pad can be replaced in the same way.
Pairing
Because the driver is a high impedance planar design, output voltage matters more than with typical low impedance planars. Meze asks for at least 200 mW into its load and prefers 500 mW or more, which points to a proper desktop headphone amp, since phones and small dongles fall short. The supplied balanced 4-pin XLR lead allows direct connection to any amp fitted with a four-pin balanced socket, and the single-ended lead covers single-ended sockets.
Alternatives
The Meze Audio Empyrean II is a further open-back circumaural design in the Meze line, also using an Isodynamic Hybrid Array planar driver.
