The Quantum TWS was the first true wireless earbud in the Quantum gaming family from JBL, a Harman brand, and it arrived alongside the first Quantum microphone at the start of 2022. Harman set the US price at USD 149.95, with sales starting in spring 2022. It was aimed at players who want one pair of buds that handles a console or computer through a low-latency radio link and a phone over Bluetooth, and it combines that dual connection with adaptive noise cancelling in a closed in-ear shell.

Key specs that matter

Each bud holds a single 10 mm dynamic driver. JBL quotes a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, a sensitivity of 106 dB at 1 kHz and 1 mW and an impedance of 16 ohm. A charge gives up to 8 hours of play from the buds and up to 4 hours of talk, and the case stores another 16 hours; refilling from empty takes 2 hours. Each earpiece is listed at 11 g and the case at 42.4 g. The wireless section runs Bluetooth 5.2 with the A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.6 and HFP 1.8 profiles in the 2.4 to 2.4835 GHz band, at a transmitter power below 12 dBm EIRP. The maker spec page gives an IPX4 rating, and the only colour listed is black.

Engineering and use context

A USB-C wireless dongle ships in the box and supplies the low-latency 2.4 GHz link, and JBL names PC, Mac, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and supported mobile devices as hosts. Dual Source lets the buds hold that dongle link and a Bluetooth phone connection at the same moment, so a player can stay in a game while taking a call. True Adaptive Noise Cancelling calibrates itself to the wearer, and Ambient Aware lets outside sound back in when needed. For voice, JBL cites six-mic call quality built around beamforming. QuantumSURROUND processing, a spatial mode tuned for games, works only on a PC running the QuantumENGINE software, which also exposes EQ and microphone settings. On a phone, the JBL Headphones app handles the same kind of adjustment, and Google Assistant and Alexa are both supported. Packed with the buds are tips in three sizes plus a USB-C lead for charging.

Pairing

With no cable, the buds need no amplifier or DAC. The dongle suits a Switch dock or handheld, a PlayStation, or a laptop with a USB-C port, while any phone or tablet with Bluetooth covers calls and music on the move. Owners who play mainly on a PC get the most from the model, since the surround mode and the fullest control set live in QuantumENGINE.

Alternatives

The JBL Quantum TWS Air keeps the dongle and the four-hour talk rating but moves to 6.8 mm drivers and a lighter case of 35.4 g.
