The Endurance Sprint is a Bluetooth sport earphone from JBL's Endurance line, aimed at runners and gym users who want buds that stay put and tolerate water. It dates from 2018, and it was offered in black, blue, red, teal and a black with yellow combination. JBL classes it as a wireless in-ear model rather than a true wireless one, and the two buds work as a linked pair that can be clipped together between sessions.

Key specs that matter

Every earpiece carries a 10 mm dynamic unit, with a quoted response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and an impedance of 16 ohm. The internal lithium-ion polymer cell is rated at 3.7 V and 120 mAh, which JBL converts into 8 hours of music. Speed Charge restores roughly one hour of listening after 10 minutes on the cable. Protection is IPX7, so the Sprint is specified to survive full submersion in water, with JBL stating it can be used in all weather and sport conditions. The radio is Bluetooth 4.2 running in the 2.402 to 2.48 GHz band at 4 dBm, with GFSK, pi/4 DQPSK and 8DPSK modulation.

Engineering and use context

JBL built the fit around three of its own ideas. TwistLock shapes the housing so it turns into position and holds during movement, FlexSoft tips add a soft seal, and the company pairs them with a Never hurt, never fall out guarantee. MagHook is the third element - an ear hook that steadies the buds during a workout and, thanks to magnets, lets the pair be joined and hung on a shirt or bag strap when the music stops. Control is by touch on the earpieces, where taps adjust volume, start and pause tracks, skip forward and back, and pick up calls, so there is no need to reach for the phone mid-run. Calls are taken through an integrated mic, although direct Siri or Google Now access is not supported. The box holds the headphones, three sizes of ear tips, a charging cable, one extra fit piece and the warranty and quick start sheets.

Pairing

The Sprint accepts a stream from a smartphone, tablet or laptop over Bluetooth, and the profile set of HFP 1.6, A2DP 1.3 and AVRCP 1.5 covers calls, stereo music and remote control of the player. Conversion and amplification are done inside the buds themselves, so a separate DAC or headphone amp has no role here. The battery life is sized for individual training sessions rather than all-day wear.

Alternatives

JBL's Endurance Run 2 Wireless is a newer Bluetooth sport earphone of the same type, moving to Bluetooth 5.0, an 8 mm driver and up to 10 hours per charge.
