Key specs that matter

A custom 10 mm dynamic driver, whose magnets use recycled neodymium, is fitted in each earbud and powered by Class AB amplification. Processing is handled by a Qualcomm QCC3071 chip with a tri-core architecture, and the M100 is part of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound platform. The Bluetooth 5.3 link supports LE Audio and four codecs - aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive plus AAC and SBC. Each earbud weighs 6.65 g, and the charging case weighs 53.3 g. Earbud playback runs up to 16 hours with noise cancelling off or 10 hours with it on, and together with the case the total reaches 52 hours with ANC off or 33 hours with ANC on. The buds are rated IPX4 against water splashes.

Engineering and use context

The M100 uses hybrid noise cancelling with feed-forward and feed-back microphones, and Qualcomm Adaptive ANC adjusts it to the surroundings. A transparency mode lets outside sound through, and wind noise reduction is built in. Six microphones are fitted, three per earbud, with Qualcomm cVc echo cancelling for calls. USB-C and Qi wireless charging are both supported by the case. The Melomania Connect app offers an adjustable EQ of seven bands plus six presets by music genre, customisable touch controls and a gaming mode with latency under 80 ms. Siri and Google Assistant can be called up from the earbuds. The box includes three sizes of silicone tips and two sizes of memory foam tips. Cambridge Audio states that the product uses 50 percent recycled plastic and ships in plastic-free packaging.

Pairing

Cambridge Audio describes aptX Lossless as CD-quality wireless transmission without lossy compression, which needs a source device that also supports the Snapdragon Sound aptX Lossless mode. Sources without aptX fall back to AAC or SBC, so the earphones still connect to Bluetooth sources of any kind. The initial connection is quicker on Android devices through Google Fast Pair, while Windows computers use Microsoft Swift Pair for the same purpose.
