The JBL LIVE 670NC is an on-ear Bluetooth design using True Adaptive Noise Cancelling. It shares its feature set with the over-ear LIVE 770NC but uses a smaller on-ear format and a lighter build.

Key specs that matter

A 40 mm dynamic driver is used on both sides. In Bluetooth mode the frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, extending to 40 kHz over the analogue AUX input. Impedance is 32 ohm, sensitivity is 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz and maximum SPL is 95 dB. Music playtime is rated at 65 hours at most on Bluetooth without noise cancelling, 50 hours when both functions run, and 40 hours if only ANC is active. Talk time is up to 33 hours without ANC and 28 hours with it. The 850 mAh lithium-ion battery at 3.7 V charges in under 3 hours through a 5 V 1 A USB-C input, and a 5-minute charge gives 4 more hours. Weight is 219 g.

Engineering and use context

The headphone runs Bluetooth 5.3 at up to 10 dBm E.I.R.P. with GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8-DPSK modulation, plus HFP 1.8, A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6.2, and JBL states that LE Audio support arrives through a later over-the-air update. Audio Mode favours playback quality, while Video Mode keeps sound in sync with pictures for films and games. Four noise-sensing microphones feed the adaptive ANC, and Smart Ambient brings in surrounding sounds without taking the headphone off. Two beamforming microphones handle calls, with a quoted microphone sensitivity of -38 dBV per Pa at 1 kHz. JBL Spatial Sound converts stereo content from any device into virtual surround. Two Bluetooth sources can stay paired simultaneously via multi-point, and Auto play and pause reacts when the headphone is lifted off or put back on. The voice assistant, Alexa or Hey Google, answers to its hotword or a tap on the earcup. For Android and Windows devices the headphone pairs automatically when nearby, and the Google Finder service can help locate a lost unit through a network of over 3 million Android devices. The quoted maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C.

Pairing

The package holds the headphones, a detachable analogue lead, a USB-C cable for charging and printed documents. With the JBL Headphones app the owner customises the ANC, headphone behaviours and spatial settings, and Personi-Fi 2.0 builds a personal sound profile from a short hearing test. A textured fabric headband and soft ear cushions come in earthy shades, with a carrying pouch for transport.
