The LAN 2, written LAN II by Moondrop, is a wired earphone built around a single moving-coil unit, which the Chinese company launched on 17 September 2025 at USD 59.99. It follows the original LAN and keeps the formula of a small metal earpiece, but changes the diaphragm material, lowers the impedance slightly and moves the stock cable to a balanced plug. Both of its two versions cost the same. They are named LAN II REF and LAN II POP. Hardware, cable and accessories are the same in both, so they differ only in tuning.
Key specs that matter
Each earpiece holds a 10mm double-cavity dynamic driver with a glass dome composite diaphragm 0.05mm thick. Impedance is 30 ohm plus or minus 15 percent and sensitivity 118 dB per Vrms, both measured at 1 kHz. Total harmonic distortion is rated at no more than 0.08 percent at 1 kHz and 94 dB. Moondrop quotes a frequency response of 12 Hz to 60 kHz measured to IEC 61094 in free field, with 20 Hz to 20 kHz as the effective range. The housings are stainless steel, and the detachable cable uses standard 0.78mm 2-pin sockets.
Engineering and use context
The glass dome diaphragm is chosen for its very high Young's modulus combined with a high internal loss coefficient, meaning the dome stays stiff while resonances die away quickly. The earlier LAN used a beryllium-plated dome at 32 ohm and 120 dB per Vrms, so the new part trades a little efficiency for a different diaphragm material. The motor is a dual magnetic circuit with one magnet inside and one outside the voice coil, which raises the flux in the gap. The shells are made by metal injection moulding, where powdered stainless steel is moulded and sintered, giving small, dense housings with consistent internal acoustic volumes. The stock cable is high-purity oxygen-free copper terminated in a 4.4mm balanced plug. The box contains a 4.4mm female to 3.5mm male adapter, a storage case, S, M and L ear tips and a character card.
Pairing
With its high sensitivity, even a small USB-C adapter DAC with a low output voltage gets the LAN II loud enough. Players and DACs with a balanced output drive it directly in balanced mode, and the supplied adapter covers single-ended sources.
Alternatives
The Moondrop LAN pairs its beryllium-plated dome driver in a MIM steel shell with a single-ended plug.
