FiiO presented the JT7 in November 2025 under its Jade Audio label as an open-back headphone worn over the ear, built around a planar magnetic transducer developed entirely in-house. The company calls it the most affordable planar headphone in the world. It folds for transport, uses detachable leads, holds Hi-Res Audio certification and is sold in a single black finish.
Key specs that matter
The 95 x 86 mm planar driver in each earpiece has a diaphragm only 3 microns thick. FiiO specifies a frequency response of 7 Hz to 40 kHz. Impedance is 18 ohm at 1 kHz, and sensitivity is quoted as 92 dB per mW and 109 dB per Vrms, both at 1 kHz. The headphone weighs about 318 g. The package holds a pair of detachable cables with gold-plated plugs, one ending in a 3.5 mm single-ended connector and the other in a 4.4 mm balanced connector, plus a 6.35 mm to 3.5 mm adapter along with a pouch for storage and a printed start guide.
Engineering and use context
FiiO calls its diaphragm approach F.E.S., short for FIIO Elastic System. It gives the film a multi-dimensional surface texture, borrowing the idea of a surround from dynamic drivers, and the company states that this controls internal stress so the diaphragm can move more freely without added distortion. The voice coil trace is joined to the diaphragm through a 28 nm chip-grade process adapted from semiconductor plating, which FiiO says allows extremely fine coil wiring and stronger structural integrity. The magnet system is a two-way push-pull arrangement of high-density neodymium iron boron magnets. On the mechanical side, the hinges are made of high-strength fiberglass and were tested over 10,000 times. The headband rotates on four axes for fit, its cushion attaches with Velcro and can be replaced, and the mesh earpads also detach for replacement. Each cup has its own socket, so the lead attaches to both sides.
Pairing
The two supplied leads cover the common headphone outputs - the balanced cable suits balanced outputs on portable players, USB dongles and desktop amplifiers, and the single-ended lead serves single-ended outputs and, through the adapter, full-size jacks on home amplifiers.
Alternatives
Within FiiO's own range, the FT5 is a larger open-back planar model, using a 90 mm driver with a 6 micron diaphragm, 36 ohm impedance, 96 dB per mW sensitivity and a weight of about 456 g without cable.
