FiiO's JH13 is a wired earphone with a hybrid driver layout, released under FiiO's JadeAudio brand at an entry price of about USD 39, EUR 39 or GBP 29. It pairs one dynamic driver with two balanced armature drivers and carries Hi-Res Audio certification.
Key specs that matter
The bass range is handled by a custom 10 mm dynamic driver, while a custom composite dual balanced armature unit covers the upper range. FiiO rates the JH13 at 110 dB/mW sensitivity with an impedance of 24 ohm. The shells are see-through black plastic and the faceplates are zebrawood under a clear protective coating, and their naturally interwoven light and dark stripes give every pair its own grain pattern. The cable attaches with QDC-style 0.78 mm 2-pin connectors and ends in a 3.5 mm plug. Each nozzle is 6 mm in diameter, and the box holds the cable, a user manual and three sets of ear tips.
Engineering and use context
The dynamic driver uses what FiiO calls an asymmetrical internal and external dual magnetic circuit. Its voice coil is wound with CCAW, a copper wire cladding over an aluminium core, supplied by the Japanese maker Daikoku Corporation and only 0.033 mm in wire diameter. The driver chamber includes a pressure relief system meant to reduce discomfort in the ear canal during long listening sessions. FiiO supplies a high-purity OFC lead with 120 wires arranged in four strands, and it is designed to limit microphonic noise when it rubs against clothing. An over-ear cable path keeps the earpieces stable during movement, and FiiO describes the shells as lightweight. Using this common pin standard rather than MMCX makes third-party replacement or balanced cables easy to find, and a worn cable can be swapped without replacing the earpieces.
Pairing
Given that sensitivity and load, the JH13 reaches usable levels from a phone with a USB-C dongle, a laptop headphone jack or a pocket music player with no added amplifier. FiiO supplies only the single-ended termination in the package, with no balanced cable option included. A balanced cable with a 4.4 mm plug can be fitted through the 2-pin sockets to use the balanced output of a player or a DAC dongle.
Alternatives
The FiiO FH19 uses a hybrid layout of two dynamic and six balanced armature drivers.
