The EAH-A800 is a Technics closed-back over-ear Bluetooth model with active noise cancelling, offered in black or silver at a US price of USD 399.99. Bluetooth 5.2 carries the signal, and a detachable cord of about 1 m is included for wired listening, so the headphone can also be used when a wireless link is not available.

Key specs that matter

Inside every earcup is a 40 mm dynamic driver with a three-layer diaphragm of PEEK and polyurethane. Technics gives a frequency response of 4 Hz to 40 kHz, an impedance of 34 ohm and a sensitivity of 105 dB per mW at 1 kHz. Bluetooth transmission can use LDAC as well as the SBC and AAC codecs. Battery life is rated at about 50 hours with noise cancelling on and about 60 hours with it off, both measured with AAC. A full charge takes about 3 hours, while 15 minutes on the charger gives around 10 hours of playback. The headphone weighs about 298 g.

Engineering and use context

Noise cancelling follows a dual hybrid approach, combining feedforward and feedback microphones with both analogue and digital processing. Eight microphones are fitted in total, four of them working in a beamforming array with noise suppression for calls, and the system adds wind noise reduction. The earpads are cushioned to spread pressure evenly, the headband is shaped to reduce pressure across the head, and the headphone folds to fit a compact carrying case. The Technics Audio Connect app adjusts the noise cancelling and sound mode settings. Multipoint pairing lets the headphone keep a list of up to 10 devices. Thanks to a wearing sensor, playback halts once the earcups leave the head and continues if they return within 60 seconds. An ambient mode that captures outside sound from low to high frequencies and an Attention mode let the wearer hear the surroundings without removing the earcups, and the headphone works with voice assistants on a connected phone.

Pairing

LDAC support means an Android phone or digital audio player with that codec can send higher-resolution streams, whereas iPhones and other devices limited to AAC or SBC still connect normally. With the supplied cable, the EAH-A800 plugs into a headphone output on a laptop, in-flight entertainment system or desktop amplifier, and the moderate impedance with high sensitivity keeps the load easy for portable sources.

Alternatives

For buyers who prefer an in-ear format, Technics also makes the EAH-AZ100 earbuds with noise cancelling and LDAC.
