The DUSK is a collaborative in-ear monitor developed by Moondrop together with Crinacle and announced in April 2024. It combines three driver technologies in one shell and is sold with both an analogue cable and a USB-C cable with its own DSP, so it can connect either through a 3.5 mm plug or directly to a USB-C port. The tuning was set to the In-Ear Fidelity target curve, and the launch price was SGD 589.99.
Key specs that matter
Moondrop lists the driver complement as two dynamic drivers, two balanced armatures and two planar magnetic drivers, split in a three-way arrangement it calls a triplicate hybrid crossover. The dynamic units are 10 mm in diameter and cover the bass, the armatures take the midrange, and the planar drivers handle the treble. Impedance is 14.5 ohm at 1 kHz with a 15 percent tolerance, and sensitivity is 119 dB per Vrms at 1 kHz. The rated frequency range runs from 10 Hz to 24 kHz, the effective range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 3 dB on an IEC 60318-4 coupler, and THD stays at 0.5 percent or less at 1 kHz and 94 dB. Cables attach through standard 0.78 mm two-pin CIEM sockets.
Engineering and use context
Bass comes from a module Moondrop names H.O.D.D.D.U.S., short for horizontally opposed double dynamic driver unit, in which the pair of dynamic units face each other in an isobaric layout. Instead of balanced armature treble, the DUSK relies on planar treble drivers that the maker describes as low in distortion with a smooth response. The shell is 3D printed from medical resin and carries physical acoustic filters derived from the BLESSING3 platform. The faceplate is cut by CNC from forged carbon fibre.
Pairing
Its low load and efficient drivers mean that small portable sources reach normal levels with little voltage, so a phone dongle or a pocket-sized digital audio player has enough output to drive the DUSK properly. For phones without an analogue jack, the second cable plugs into USB-C, decodes PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz and offers five acoustic presets, with further equaliser control through the Moondrop Link 2.0 app. The single-ended analogue cable covers dedicated players and desktop amplifiers. Also in the box are three pairs of spring tips, an airplane adaptor, a leather case, a postcard and the usual manual and service card.
Alternatives
Among Moondrop's own hybrids, the BLESSING3 is the model whose filter work fed into this design.
