The MC40 is an AC power conditioner from the Taiwanese company SINE and sits in the middle of its Magnetic Conduit series, between the compact MC25 and the pricier S60A from which it was derived. SINE describes it as a lighter and slimmer chassis built on the S60A design, aimed at hi-fi and audio-visual systems. Its European list price was EUR 1,380 before VAT.
Key specs that matter
The unit accepts mains input from 100 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. At 220 V the maker quotes a maximum continuous power of 6,000 W and a total transient capacity of 10,600 W. Protection comes from a 20 A circuit breaker that doubles as the power switch and includes surge protection. The case measures 372 mm wide, 180 mm deep and 160 mm high, weighing 10 kg net and 11 kg packed. Mains enters through an IEC inlet, and the platinum-plated outlets are offered in three regional socket types covering US, UK and EU plugs.
Engineering and use context
The core of the design is a pair of purpose-made 40 A magnetic conduits in aluminium alloy, which SINE uses to reduce noise on the supply and to correct deviations in the AC sine wave. Three compensation circuits sit alongside them to support current flow. Internal wiring uses two runs of 13 AWG solid-core copper, joined by a helical, four-strand hook connection method intended to soften current shock, and every internal conductor, along with the breaker, is cryogenically treated at minus 196 degrees Celsius. Natural minerals inside the enclosure form a stone aggregate that SINE credits with static neutralisation, absorption of electromagnetic interference and lower resonance. The circuit topology is balanced with dual-stage filtering. The front panel is a 10 mm slab of silver aluminium alloy over a black aluminium body, the thick chassis is meant to block EMI and RF, and damping material packs the lower part of the enclosure against vibration. The outlets are described as high current types with conditioning applied to them. The box can stand upright or lie flat, so it fits either on a shelf or beside a rack.
Pairing
With several kilowatts of continuous capacity, the MC40 is specified to feed a complete system from one point, including power amplifiers alongside sources, preamplifiers and video equipment. On 100 to 120 V networks the available capacity is lower, since the maker quotes the power ratings only for higher mains voltage.
Alternatives
The SINE S30 MC is a lower priced Magnetic Conduit conditioner at EUR 850 excluding VAT, using dual conduit filtration and cryogenically treated T1-grade copper outlets.
