JBL's Bar 700MK2 is a 7.1-channel package made up of a soundbar, a pair of battery-powered surround units that detach from its ends, and a 10 inch wireless subwoofer. In the 2025 MK2 range it sits between the 5.1-channel Bar 500MK2 and the Bar 1000MK2, which adds up-firing drivers. The Bar 700MK2 decodes Dolby Atmos and handles DTS through virtual height processing, relying on software for the overhead layer rather than dedicated height drivers.

Key specs that matter

The system delivers 780 W maximum at 1% THD, equal to 390 W RMS, divided into 400 W for the bar, 2 x 40 W for the surrounds and 300 W for the subwoofer. The bar houses six 44 x 80 mm racetrack drivers and two 25 mm tweeters, each surround speaker uses 44 x 90 mm racetrack drivers, and the subwoofer has a 260 mm driver. Frequency response spans 35 Hz to 20 kHz at -6 dB. The HDMI input and the eARC output both support HDCP 2.3 and pass HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Optical, USB-A and Bluetooth 5.3 inputs and Wi-Fi 6 complete the connections, and standby consumption is under 1 W. With the surrounds attached the bar is 1163 mm wide, and on its own it measures 854 x 52 x 128 mm and weighs 5 kg. Each surround is 169 x 52 x 128 mm and weighs 0.7 kg, and the 325 x 400 x 325 mm subwoofer weighs 8.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

When docked, the two surround speakers form the ends of the bar and recharge from it. Detached, they run on 3.635 V lithium batteries of 3283 mAh for up to 10 hours and can be placed behind or beside the seating for films and games, then returned to the bar for everyday television. This avoids running cables to the back of the room. Compared with the Bar 1000MK2, the surround speakers have no up-firing drivers and less amplifier power, and the bar has one HDMI input instead of three. MultiBeam 3.0 uses reflections from the side walls to spread the front channels, and PureVoice 2.0 keeps dialogue audible by adjusting its level against the rest of the soundtrack and the volume setting. The JBL ONE app manages setup, EQ and streaming, and Wi-Fi allows playback from music services without Bluetooth.

Pairing

The Bar 700MK2 suits a room of about 20 m2 where permanent rear speakers are not practical. A television with eARC returns the audio of its built-in apps, and one external device can be connected to the HDMI input.

Alternatives

The JBL Bar 1000MK2 adds up-firing drivers in the bar and surrounds for 7.1.4 channels and three HDMI inputs.
