The Bar 300MK2 is a 5.0-channel all-in-one soundbar from JBL that produces its bass from the bar itself, without a separate subwoofer. It is the entry model of the JBL MK2 soundbar range, and the Bar 500MK2 builds on the same bar by adding a 10 inch wireless subwoofer. Dolby Atmos is decoded natively, while DTS soundtracks pass through DTS virtual height processing, which simulates the overhead layer without dedicated up-firing drivers.

Key specs that matter

Maximum power at 1% THD is 450 W, or 225 W RMS. The driver set consists of five 42 x 80 mm racetrack drivers and four 20 mm tweeters. Frequency response extends from 50 Hz to 20 kHz at -6 dB. The bar has a single HDMI input and an HDMI eARC output, both with HDCP 2.3 and passthrough of HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Further inputs are optical, Bluetooth and USB-A, the last playing MP3 files only on US units. Wireless connections use Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi 6. The soundbar measures 940 x 50.5 x 104 mm and weighs 2.9 kg. Its drivers and enclosure are identical to those of the Bar 500MK2, which differs only by its wireless subwoofer.

Engineering and use context

With its low, shallow profile, the bar is sized to sit on a television cabinet in front of the screen. Five racetrack drivers share the front channels, and their elongated shape gives more cone area than a round driver of the same height, which helps a slim bar reach its low limit without a subwoofer. The four tweeters cover the upper range across the width of the enclosure. MultiBeam 3.0 sends parts of the signal towards the side walls so that reflections widen the front sound field, and the DTS virtualiser adds its simulated height layer in software. PureVoice 2.0 lifts dialogue relative to effects and music according to the content and the volume. An easy sound calibration routine is built in, and the JBL ONE app provides EQ and system settings. The soundbar works with voice-assistant speakers, and Wi-Fi allows music streaming from apps without a phone acting as a Bluetooth source. The HDMI input lets one external device such as a console pass video through the bar to the television.

Pairing

The Bar 300MK2 suits a television in a room of about 20 m2 where space for a subwoofer is limited. A television with HDMI eARC sends its own apps' audio back to the bar, and the single HDMI input takes one player or console.

Alternatives

The JBL Bar 500MK2 uses the same bar with a wireless subwoofer for deeper bass.
