The Bar 1300MK2 is the top model of the second-generation JBL soundbar family from HARMAN International, positioned above the Bar 1000MK2, Bar 700MK2, Bar 500MK2 and Bar 300MK2. It is an 11.1.4-channel package made of a main bar, two detachable battery-powered surround speakers that clip onto its ends and a separate wireless subwoofer. European sales began in September and US sales in October, at USD 1,699.95, GBP 1,299.99 or EUR 1,499.99.

Key specs that matter

JBL rates the combined maximum power at 2,470 W, measured at 1 percent THD. The bar houses eight 50 x 75 mm racetrack drivers, seven 25 mm tweeters and four 75 mm up-firing units. Each surround adds two 50 x 90 mm racetrack drivers, a 50 mm full-range driver and one more 75 mm up-firing unit, for six height drivers across the system, and the subwoofer uses two 200 mm woofers. The system reaches down to 33 Hz and up to 20 kHz at -6 dB. With surrounds removed the bar is 1,030 x 58 x 136 mm and 5.93 kg, each surround is 202 x 58 x 136 mm and 1.3 kg, and the subwoofer measures 315 x 277 x 275 mm and weighs 12 kg.

Engineering and use context

The processor decodes both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, with MultiBeam 3.0 steering side-firing beams and PureVoice 2.0 handling dialogue. A processor called AI Sound Boost analyses the incoming signal in real time and redistributes drive energy across the drivers so that heavy bass passages are reproduced without distortion, and at launch it could not be switched off. The surrounds carry their own batteries for up to 10 hours of playback and recharge through a USB-C port, and they can also be assigned to another room as separate speakers in a multi-room setup. HDMI inputs pass 4K Dolby Vision video through to the display, and the HDMI eARC output returns audio from the TV. The wireless section combines IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax Wi-Fi on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with Bluetooth, and the JBL One app handles setup and streaming services. Music services reach it through Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Roon, Google Cast or Apple AirPlay 2.

Pairing

A TV with eARC is the natural partner, with a games console or streaming player routed through the HDMI inputs so that Dolby Vision reaches the screen. Phones and computers stream to it over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth without an extra receiver.
