The Akurate 3200 is the three-channel member of the Akurate amplifier series from the Scottish company Linn, placed between the two-channel Akurate 2200 and the four-channel Akurate 4200 in a line that shares one chassis. Linn presents the series as flexible building blocks for stereo, multi-channel and multi-amp systems. Buyers choose between a phono model with RCA connections and a balanced model with XLR connections, each offered in black and in silver.

All three channels deliver 111 W rms into 8 ohm and 200 W rms into 4 ohm, and maximum input power is 300 W. The case measures 380 by 91 by 380 mm and weighs 8.2 kg. Six binding posts serve the three speaker outputs, and there are three line inputs and three line outputs. Frequency response is 1.4 Hz to 41 kHz, harmonic distortion stays under 0.005 percent, and peak output voltage reaches 41 V. Input sensitivity for clipping is 1.1 V rms through RCA or 2.2 V rms through XLR, with input impedance of 7.5 or 7.8 kohm. Engineering and use context

Chakra, the patented output stage used across the Akurate amplifiers, runs a single-chip amplifier on its own at low current and hands most of the current to large bipolar transistors as demand rises. The Dynamik switch-mode supply regulates the incoming mains and keeps the internal circuitry electrically isolated from it. A Linn AKTIV module can be inserted per channel for active crossover use, and the rear gain switch offers eight steps of 1 dB but should stay at its default without such a module. If a channel overheats or sees an overload, its power supply shuts down, and all channels fed by the same supply stop as well until the fault clears. After roughly 20 minutes without a signal the amplifier drops into standby and the front LED dims.

Pairing

Its inputs expect line level from a preamplifier or an AV system controller, and the default gain is 28.6 dB on the phono model or 22.6 dB on the balanced one. For multi-amp use, Linn names bi-amping a pair of speakers or assigning one channel to each drive unit with Exakt. Line outputs relay each input to further amplifiers or a subwoofer, though on balanced models not every channel has one because of rear panel space.
