The AD-1PA from Guangzhou Tonewinner Electronics is a high-end two-channel power amplifier using TTC5200/TTA1943 output transistors, of which it carries eight matched pairs. Tonewinner lists living rooms and demo rooms as its intended settings, and its catalogue places it after a dedicated preamplifier in a system of separate components.

Key specs that matter

Output is 300 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms, measured with one channel driven at 1 kHz and 1% THD. THD is 0.008% or lower at 1 kHz in normal operation, and response runs from 10 Hz to 100 kHz within +1/-3 dB with the analog signal passed through. A-weighted SNR measures at least 108 dB through the balanced input and at least 115 dB through the unbalanced one. Gain is 29.5 dB plus or minus 1 dB, and channel separation reaches 80 dB or more. Rated load is 8 ohms. The chassis is 444 mm wide, 294 mm high and 449 mm deep, weighing 43.4 kg net and 46 kg in its 614 x 446 x 606 mm carton.

Engineering and use context

Tonewinner specifies a full balance amplifying circuit, with symmetric differential inputs and a three-stage BTL differential output built on Darlington transistors. Its output devices are selected for stable high-speed switching when working current changes widely. A 1,200 W transformer feeds 16 custom capacitors with a combined 180,000 uF. In the automatic setting the amplifier moves between Class A and Class AB according to its internal temperature, and the mode can also be set by hand. Static consumption is 260 to 300 W in Class A and 70 to 110 W in Class AB, falling to 1 W or less in standby. Two Tonewinner patents cover the supply, one comparing the audio signal with an internal reference to switch between high and low rail voltages while avoiding the level jumps and distortion of Class H designs and one for safe changeover between 110 V at 60 Hz and 220 V at 50 Hz. Function areas are split into separate chambers, and the all-aluminium case follows a classic black and white design.

Pairing

Dual pairs of binding posts on each channel permit bi-wiring, which Tonewinner says lowers magnetic interaction in the cable. A power cord is the only accessory supplied. Tonewinner lists the AD-1PRE+ preamplifier, the TY-1CD player and TD-8 floor standing speakers as the matching system.
