The Passion IA350 MKII is a French two-channel integrated amplifier by YBA that includes its own DAC stage, released in spring 2022 as the Mark II update of the IA350. The Mark II revision concentrates its changes on the digital section, adding new converters, a newer USB controller and Bluetooth, and YBA has since moved the model into its discontinued range. The case has a natural aluminium finish.
Key specs that matter
YBA rates the amplifier at 115 W into 8 ohm and 160 W into 4 ohm per channel. For analogue sources there are two RCA pairs plus a single XLR pair. Two Analog Devices AD1955 chips perform the conversion, with native support for PCM up to 24 bits and 192 kHz and for DSD64. The USB input uses an XMOS XU208 controller and accepts PCM up to 32 bits and 768 kHz as well as DSD512. Further digital inputs are coaxial, AES/EBU on XLR and I2S on an RJ45 socket, and the Bluetooth 5.0 receiver is a Qualcomm CSR8675 handling LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, AAC and SBC. The maker lists a signal-to-noise ratio above 100 dB, THD+N below 0.03% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.5 dB. Dimensions are 430 x 380 x 108 mm and weight is 15 kg.
Engineering and use context
A linear power supply with a high performance UI-core transformer rated at 320 VA feeds the circuit instead of a switch-mode supply. The digital section can be powered down when only analogue sources are playing. The front panel follows YBA's uncluttered layout, with only an input selector, which steps through eight inputs, and a volume control, while the power switch is concealed. The display carries the IR sensor and shows the volume from -80 to 00, where 00 is the maximum. The full-function remote has a metal chassis and includes mute, a VIEW button that dims the display or turns it off, and FCT and AUDIO buttons that store a volume level and recall it. One input carries a video bypass feature for use with an external processor. Besides one set of speaker binding posts, the rear offers an RCA pre-out and an S/PDIF coaxial digital output.
Pairing
YBA states that the speaker terminals suit both common speaker impedances. The pre-out can drive a subwoofer, an external power amp or powered monitors. Digital sources such as CD transports connect through coaxial, AES/EBU or I2S, a computer through USB, and phones or tablets through Bluetooth.
Alternatives
YBA also makes the Heritage A200, an integrated amplifier from its Heritage line.
