The Ovation A 6.2 is an integrated amplifier from the Ovation series of AVM, a German company that builds its electronics in Malsch. It pairs a dual-mono amplifier with a fully balanced, DC-coupled input stage and a MOSFET output section working in Class A/AB. AVM also offers a Master Edition, which it describes as a refined, purist version of the A 6.2 with a reworked power supply.
Key specs that matter
Each channel uses 12 MOSFET transistors in high-current technology, capable of up to 180 A. Input sensitivity is 41 mV for 25 W into 4 ohm and can be adjusted between 12.5 and 125 mV. Input impedance is 10 kOhm on RCA and 3.4 kOhm on XLR. The power stage reaches beyond 100 kHz, keeps distortion under 0.025 percent and has a damping factor above 200. For the preamplifier section AVM quotes distortion under 0.001 percent, noise better than 100 dB, crosstalk attenuation above 120 dB and a maximum input voltage of 7 V. Connections include two XLR and five RCA inputs. The chassis measures 430 x 130 x 390 mm and weighs 19 kg, or 22 kg with the flight case.
Engineering and use context
A fully balanced control handles volume with 256 steps and a channel deviation below 0.05 dB. A 1,000 VA transformer described as ultra-silent feeds four independent power supplies. Circuit boards are assembled by hand at the AVM factory and use gold-plated pure copper tracks. A separate Class-A circuit drives the headphone output. Each input can be named individually in the menu, and its sensitivity can be set to suit the source. Maximum power consumption is 1,500 W, idle draw is about 75 W and standby is below 0.5 W, with a 230 V, 50 Hz supply. The case comes in black or silver aluminium, with a CELLINI chrome front offered at extra cost. An RC 3 remote made entirely of metal and an AVM flight case are included, and AVM grants three years of warranty cover.
Pairing
Preamplifier outputs on XLR and RCA allow an outboard power amplifier or powered subwoofer to be added. An HDMI ARC connection and a home theatre pass-through integrate the amplifier into a surround setup, where an AV processor handles the multichannel side while the A 6.2 drives the front pair.
Alternatives
AVM's Ovation A 8.3 is another integrated amplifier in the Ovation series, with an 803 T tube preamplifier stage.
