The AS 2.3 is the integrated amplifier of the Inspiration line from AVM, a German manufacturer whose products are made in its own factory in Malsch. It combines a stereo power amplifier with network streaming, a DAC section, an MM and MC phono input and an HDMI ARC connection, all housed in a screw-free aluminium case whose styling is taken from the CS 8.3 all-in-one. The Inspiration line shares this compact format with the CS 2.3 CD receiver.
Key specs that matter
AVM rates the output at 2 x 140 W into 4 ohm at 1 percent distortion with both channels driven. The gain factor is 30, distortion stays below 0.005 percent and noise sits more than 95 dB below the signal. The response extends from below 5 Hz to above 80 kHz at the -3 dB points. The phono section gives 40 dB of gain for MM with more than 83 dB(A) signal-to-noise and 30 mV headroom, and 60 dB for MC with more than 74 dB(A) and 3 mV headroom, while RIAA accuracy is held within 0.2 dB. The case measures 340 x 92 x 325 mm and the unit weighs 7.1 kg.
Engineering and use context
The built-in X-STREAM Engine accepts PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz as well as DSD256. Supported services include Qobuz, TIDAL Connect MAX, Spotify, HighResAudio and AirPlay, and the amplifier is Roon Ready. Files in WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSD, MP3, AAC and Ogg formats can be played. Network access is by dual-antenna WLAN on 2.4 and 5 GHz or by 100 Mbit LAN, and Bluetooth 5.0 LE is also fitted. Wired digital sources connect through optical S/PDIF at up to 96 kHz and coaxial S/PDIF with a 192 kHz ceiling, and matching optical and coaxial outputs are provided. A USB 2.0 port on the rear supplies up to 500 mA. Analogue inputs sit beside a pre-out, and a headphone output with 80 ohm impedance offers 4.5 V of headroom. Control runs through the RC X app, and AVM grants a two-year warranty that is extended by another two years on registration. Idle consumption is under 16 W, network standby under 2 W and full standby under 0.5 W, and the universal supply accepts 100 to 240 V. Finishes are silver, chrome, black and a Bronze Edition.
Pairing
Television sound reaches the amplifier over the HDMI ARC input, and a pre-level output makes it possible to connect an outboard stereo power stage from the volume-controlled signal. A record player with an MM or MC pickup connects directly, so no outboard phono stage is needed.
Alternatives
In AVM's Evolution line the AS 3.3 is another integrated amplifier with streaming.
