The L-590AXII is an integrated from Luxman working in pure Class A, described by the maker as the peak of its integrated amplifier design. It brings in technologies taken from Luxman separate amplifiers, including the ODNF 4.0 feedback circuit, independent left and right block capacitors, discrete configured buffer circuits and the newly developed LECUA 1000 attenuator, and it includes an MM/MC phono stage and tone controls.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 30 W per channel into 8 ohm and 60 W per channel into 4 ohm. Its output circuit relies on three-stage Darlington bipolar transistors in a 3-parallel push-pull arrangement. Line input sensitivity is 180 mV at 47 kohm, the balanced line input 180 mV at 55 kohm, and main-in 550 mV at 47 kohm. The MM input takes 2.5 mV at 47 kohm and the MC input 0.3 mV at 100 ohm. The line path spans 20 Hz to 100 kHz within 3 dB, and phono 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.5 dB. Distortion is 0.005% at 1 kHz and 0.02% across 20 Hz to 20 kHz into 8 ohm. Signal to noise (IHF-A) is 107 dB or better for line, 91 dB for MM and 75 dB for MC. The damping factor is 320.
Engineering and use context
According to Luxman, the Class A rating supports the impedance characteristics of most loudspeakers. ODNF 4.0 is the latest version of the Only Distortion Negative Feedback circuit, which corrects distortion rather than the whole signal. A high regulation, large capacity power transformer feeds 80,000 uF of filtering, eight 10,000 uF capacitors split independently between left and right. Speaker relays have two contacts in parallel to lower resistance, and the terminals accept Y-lugs up to 16 mm wide. Pointer meters with LED lighting sit on the front, the tone controls are electronically switched and include a loudness function, and a headphone output and the RA-17A remote are provided. With the output devices biased in Class A, power draw is high even without music, at 330 W in use, 260 W idle and 0.5 W on standby. Bass and treble controls give 8 dB of range at 100 Hz and 10 kHz. The rec out is rated at 180 mV and the pre out at 1 V, and the main-in lets an outside preamplifier drive the power section. The chassis is 440 x 193 x 463 mm and weighs 28.4 kg.
Pairing
MM and MC pickups plug into the built-in phono input. The pre out can feed an additional power amplifier, and the rec out serves a recorder.
Alternatives
Luxman also offers the L-100 CENTENNIAL, a newer Class A integrated with a lower rated output.
