The L-595ASE is a limited run stereo integrated amplifier from Luxman, built in pure Class A to mark the company's 95th anniversary. Only 300 units were made worldwide, with 100 of them allocated to North America, and a plate on the back panel carries a three-digit serial number in the form of ### of 300. Styling draws on the L-570 series of pure Class A integrated amplifiers from roughly three decades earlier. First deliveries began in June 2021 at a list price of USD 12,000 or GBP 11,000.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 30 W per channel into 8 ohm and 60 W per channel into 4 ohm, with stable operation down to 2 ohm. Pure Class A operation removes crossover distortion from the output stage. Total harmonic distortion is 0.007% or less at 1 kHz and 0.06% or less across 20 Hz to 20 kHz, both into 8 ohm. The line stage reaches 105 dB signal to noise (IHF-A) and the MM phono input 91 dB. Damping factor is 370. Line response runs from 20 Hz to 100 kHz within -3 dB, and the phono section holds 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.5 dB. Line inputs accept 180 mV at 47 kohm on RCA or 55 kohm on the balanced XLR connection, the MM input takes 2.5 mV at 47 kohm and the MC input 0.3 mV at 100 ohm. A main-in socket (550 mV) and a pre-out (1 V) are also fitted.
Engineering and use context
Every channel relies on a three-stage Darlington output with bipolar transistors in a triple paralleled push-pull arrangement. Feedback is handled by ODNF-u, the latest version of Luxman's own ODNF circuit with improved error detection. Volume runs through the LECUA1000, an electronically controlled attenuator with 88 steps. The power supply uses a large regulated transformer, with separate high-capacity filter capacitors for the left and right channels. Large speaker relays with very low resistance keep impedance at the speaker terminals low. The gold-plated circuit board uses a peel-coat construction without the usual green film, and its traces follow smooth rounded patterns to reduce noise. Vibration damping runs through the build. Electronically controlled bass and treble adjust by 8 dB at 100 Hz and 10 kHz. The front panel pairs a hairline finish with a lower section in black Alumite, and the input selectors are aluminium direct switches with indicators. Power draw is 330 W in use, 230 W with no signal and 0.4 W on standby. It measures 440 x 193 x 462 mm and weighs 29.0 kg.
Pairing
The built-in phono stage covers both MM and MC cartridges, so no outboard phono preamplifier is required for vinyl. Bi-amping becomes possible through the pre-out and main-in, as does integration into an AV system, and an aluminium RA-17A remote comes with it.
Alternatives
The Luxman L-590AXII belongs to the regular catalogue as the standard production Class A integrated model.
