The Jazz 100 is a Class A integrated amplifier with single-ended valve output stages from Cayin, the successor to the Jazz 80, built around a pair of 805A power triodes. Alongside three analogue line inputs it adds a built-in DAC, Bluetooth reception and a transformer-coupled headphone output, and the circuit is hand-assembled with point-to-point wiring. The amplifier comes finished in silver or black, and one published price is USD 4,000.

Key specs that matter

Each channel delivers 46 W from its pair of triodes. Frequency response runs from 12 Hz to 33 kHz at -3 dB, distortion is 0.2 percent at 1 W and 1 kHz, and noise sits 90 dB below signal, A-weighted. Input sensitivity is 320 mV with an input impedance of 100 kOhm, and speaker taps are provided for 4 ohm and 8 ohm loads. The DAC uses an ESS ES9018K2M SABRE32 chip, and the Bluetooth 5.0 receiver supports UAT, LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, SBC and AAC. The headphone socket suits models from 16 to 300 ohm. Maximum consumption reaches 410 W, the case measures 420 x 389 x 248 mm in width, depth and height, while the net weight is 35 kg.

Engineering and use context

Where the Jazz 80 used KT88 pentodes, this model moves to 805A generator triodes. Its complement of valves is two 6JC6, one 6SN7, two 6L6 and two 805A. Mullard-type 6JC6 and 6SN7 valves form the voltage amplification stage, the 6L6 pair drives the output, and the 805A triodes deliver power to the speakers. Owners can replace the 6L6 drivers with EL34, 6CA7, 5881, 6550, KT88 or KT90 types. Dual-function meters show output level or serve for bias adjustment, and bias for the 805A valves is user-adjustable, with a hum balancer for the output tubes. A switch selects high or low negative feedback. A soft-start circuit and a high voltage delay guard the tubes at each start, and the supplied remote handles control, while the unit memorises its last operating state when switched off.

Pairing

A streamer or disc transport can be wired into the built-in DAC, and phones or tablets connect wirelessly for casual listening. Loudspeakers should present a load that matches either of the two output taps, and the high mass and power draw call for a sturdy rack with ventilation around the hot valves. Headphone users can plug in directly at the front.

Alternatives

The Cayin Jazz 80 is the preceding single-ended integrated amplifier in the same Jazz series.
