The H190v is an integrated amplifier with DAC, streamer and phono stage from Hegel Music Systems in Oslo, Norway. It revises the H190, and the company presents it as an all-in-one unit for listeners who want a single chassis. In the current integrated range it sits above the H95 and H150. The US price is USD 4,200, and both black and white finishes are offered.
Key specs that matter
Each channel delivers 150 W into 8 ohm at 1 kHz and 1 percent THD, and loads down to 2 ohm are permitted. Hegel quotes a damping factor above 4,000, response from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, noise more than 100 dB below full output, crosstalk under -100 dB, and harmonic distortion as well as intermodulation both below 0.01 percent, the former measured at 50 W into 8 ohm. Ten inputs are fitted - one XLR, two RCA line, one RCA phono for moving-magnet cartridges, one coaxial at up to 24 bit and 192 kHz, three optical and one USB at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz, and a network port handling 24 bit and 192 kHz. Outputs include a fixed RCA line out, a variable RCA line out and a 6.3 mm headphone jack. Height is 12 cm, width 43 cm and depth 41 cm, with a weight of 14.2 kg. Standby draw stays under 0.5 W.
Engineering and use context
The class AB power section is corrected by SoundEngine, Hegel's feed-forward error correction, and DualAmp keeps the voltage gain and current gain stages apart. Low-level and high-level circuits run from separate power supplies. The in-house DAC uses synchronous upsampling and a dedicated master clock system to lower jitter. The phono stage is scaled down from Hegel's V10 standalone phono preamplifier and accepts MM cartridges only, so a moving-coil pickup needs a step-up transformer. A dedicated amplifier drives the headphone output. Network playback supports AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, DLNA and UPnP, and the unit is JPLAY certified, with MP3, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AAC, PCM and Ogg files accepted. The amplifier can learn commands from a TV remote, and IP control makes it compatible with Control4, Crestron and Savant systems. A remote handset is included.
Pairing
The variable line output suits an active subwoofer or an external power amplifier, and a turntable with an MM cartridge plugs straight into the phono input. The low minimum load and high damping figure make the H190v a fit for speakers with difficult impedance curves.
Alternatives
The Hegel H150 is the smaller streaming integrated in the range, with 75 W per channel and a single RCA line input.
