The A200 is a fully analogue integrated amplifier from Norwegian maker Hegel. It is built on the same amplifier platform as the streaming H200 of the same launch, but all digital circuitry is removed, so there is no DAC, no digital input and no network section. Recommended prices are USD 3,995, EUR 3,295, GBP 2,750 and AUD 5,995, with shipping planned for October 2026.

Key specs that matter

The Class A/B power section delivers 2 x 150 W into 8 ohm at 1 kHz and 1 percent THD, with stable operation specified down to a 2 ohm load. Distortion stays below 0.01 percent at 50 W into 8 ohm and 1 kHz, and intermodulation is also under 0.01 percent with a 19 kHz plus 20 kHz test signal. Frequency response runs from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 100 dB and crosstalk is lower than -100 dB. Hegel quotes a damping factor above 4000 for the main power output stage. The chassis is 43 cm wide, 41 cm deep and 12 cm high, and it weighs 13.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Hegel uses its SoundEngine2 circuit, which detects distortion where it arises and cancels it before it travels further along the signal path. Line sources connect through two XLR sockets and two RCA pairs, giving four analogue line inputs in total. A dedicated moving magnet phono input is derived from the MM section of the standalone Hegel V10 phono stage, built with FET transistor gain stages matched by hand, and it does not support moving coil cartridges. The front panel carries a headphone output. A home theatre bypass allows integration with a surround processor, and input levels can be configured per source. The amplifier can learn volume commands from a TV remote, switches to standby automatically and allows display brightness to be adjusted. It runs on 100, 120 or 230 V mains, sits in the Hegel integrated range next to the H95, H150, H190v, H200, H400 and H600, and HDMI is not part of the connection set.

Pairing

The variable RCA line output suits an outboard power amplifier or an active subwoofer, while a fixed RCA output serves a recorder or a second system. Digital sources such as a streamer or CD player need their own DAC, since the A200 accepts analogue signals only, while a turntable carrying an MM pickup cartridge connects to the phono input directly.

Alternatives

Hegel's H200 is the streaming integrated amplifier of the same generation, adding a DAC with coaxial, optical, USB and network inputs.
