AVM Ovation AS XL – a Powerful Integrated Amplifier with the X-Stream Engine Digital Platform

Audio Video Manufaktur has introduced the AVM Ovation AS XL integrated amplifier – a reference model combining an analogue amplification section, digital inputs, built-in streaming and the company’s proprietary X-Stream Engine platform. The XL designation refers to the Roman numeral for 40, highlighting AVM’s four decades of experience in developing audiophile amplifiers.
The new model is manufactured at AVM’s factory in the German town of Malsch. The amplifier features a massive aluminium chassis and is supplied in a flight case. The AVM Ovation AS XL operates in Class A and Class AB and delivers 400 watts per channel. Its design uses a 1,000 VA toroidal transformer, 24 output MOSFET transistors per channel and filter capacitors with a total capacity of more than 270,000 µF. The dual-mono circuit ensures high channel separation and a large-scale soundstage.
The digital section is based on the S-DAC module with an ESS 9038 PRO Double-Quad converter. The amplifier supports PCM signals up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256. Four DAC channels per amplifier channel operate in parallel, which, according to AVM, increases conversion accuracy and reduces noise. The analogue signal path is fully DC-coupled, with no coupling capacitors in the signal path.
Network functions are handled by the AVM X-Stream Engine. The model supports Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect MAX, Spotify Connect, internet radio, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.0 and is Roon Ready. Control is available via the RC-X app, while RoomConneXion technology allows the amplifier to be used as part of a multiroom system. A dimmable OLED display with a proximity sensor is located on the front panel.
The AVM Ovation AS XL measures 430 × 250 × 420 mm and weighs 50 kg. The amplifier will be available in silver, matte black and the Cellini Edition version with a chrome front panel. An aluminium RC 5 remote control is included. The price and availability date have not yet been announced.
