Product description

It's no secret that materials made from carbon fiber are characterized by high rigidity and strength, yet lightweight. It's this combination of qualities that has led to its use, for example, in the production of Formula 1 car bodies.

Carbon fiber has also found its way into audio equipment. Many manufacturers use it in speaker enclosures, particularly where lightweight enclosures are required while maintaining strength and acoustic inertia. However, carbon fiber is rarely used in speaker drivers, and we believe that the type of fiber we use and its preparation are completely unique in the audio industry.

ProAc uses carbon fiber in the manufacture of its woofers. Extensive research conducted by the company over the past several years has revealed a number of advantages that come from using carbon fiber as a cone material. Carbon fiber cones are lightweight, allowing them to respond very sensitively to the slightest changes in the magnetic field in the driver's magnet system, resulting in highly detailed, precise, and dynamic sound. Furthermore, carbon fiber diaphragms are extremely rigid and durable, meaning even at maximum vibration amplitudes (at maximum volume), significant bending waves that generate sound distortion will not occur on their surface.

The woofers of the ProAc Carbon Pro 6 speaker system are made of finely woven carbon fibers with a special polymer impregnation. The back of the cone is lacquered, and the manufacturer also paid particular attention to the correct mass distribution across the cone, achieved through special concentric "weight" rings.

The midrange driver in these speakers is equipped with a soft dome cone with a diameter of 50 mm. To control midrange directivity, a custom-made horn-loaded waveguide is used, also crafted from polymer-impregnated carbon fibers with carefully polished walls. The ribbon tweeter, custom-designed for the ProAc, features a ribbon design with a diaphragm "lighter than a human hair" and a magnet made of an aluminum-nickel-cobalt alloy. These innovations allowed for a significant reduction in the enclosure's size without sacrificing the scale and energy of larger speakers.

The speaker enclosure is constructed from ProAc's signature combination of HDF (high-density fiberboard) of variable thickness with strong bitumen damping. The speaker enclosure's wall thickness, including the damping layer, is an impressive 35 mm.

The ProAc Carbon Pro 6 delivers exceptionally precise and detailed sound across the entire frequency range. At the same time, they manage to reproduce bass with a depth that would rival many of their much larger competitors. Another advantage of the ProAc Carbon Pro 6, immediately noticeable during listening, is the quality of its soundstage, which boasts impressive spaciousness and sniper-like precision in musical imaging.
