The V15+ is the largest model in M&K Sound's V+ series of compact sealed subwoofers, launched in early 2022 as an upgrade of the earlier V Series. M&K (Miller & Kreisel) built its reputation on subwoofers for home cinema and studio use, and the V15+ was the first 15-inch model in the V family. It earned THX Certified Ultra status when used as a pair, meaning two units can reach cinema reference levels in rooms of up to 3,000 cubic feet (about 85 cubic metres).

Key specs that matter

The V15+ uses a single 15-inch long-throw driver with a treated, reinforced paper cone in a sealed enclosure. The Class D amplifier delivers 500W RMS (0.5% THD at 300W into 4 ohms) and 1,000W peak. In-room response is 20Hz to 200Hz (+/-3dB), with a -6dB point at 20Hz, or 18Hz measured nearfield. The low-pass filter adjusts from 42Hz to 300Hz and phase from 0 to 360 degrees through the M&K app. Line-level connections are two RCA inputs with outputs. Standby consumption is 0.8W, average draw 50W and maximum 300W. The cabinet is a cube measuring 470 x 470 x 470mm and weighing 30.7kg, finished in satin black.

Engineering and use context

A sealed enclosure gives a gradual low-frequency roll-off and avoids port noise, and M&K builds the cabinet as an anti-resonant structure to keep panel vibration out of the output. The 15-inch paper cone is treated and reinforced for stiffness under large excursions, and the long-throw driver moves enough air for cinema levels from a relatively compact box. The amplifier includes a Headroom Limiter Maximizer, which dynamically controls driver excursion to prevent overload at extreme levels. M&K uses its own analogue input stage ahead of the Class D power section. The cabinet has curved and tapered sides and a magnetically attached front grille, designed to sit comfortably in living rooms. The app, for iOS and Android, sets volume, crossover, delay and phase from the listening seat, which is useful when the subwoofer is placed in a corner away from the controls. An automatic power-detect circuit switches the subwoofer on and off with the incoming signal.

Pairing

An AV processor's sub out feeds the V15+ via its RCA sockets, and the line-level outputs pass the signal on to a second subwoofer, the configuration in which THX certifies the V15+. Its output suits medium-sized living rooms and small dedicated home cinemas, and in stereo systems it extends bass below compact main speakers.

Alternatives

M&K Sound's own V12+ uses a 12-inch driver and a 400W amplifier in a smaller cabinet, certified THX Select.
