The TINTORETTO is the entry point to the Alsyvox line of all-ribbon floorstanders, a range that continues with the Botticelli, Caravaggio and Michelangelo. The brand was founded by designer Daniele Coen, and its panels are assembled by hand in Valencia, Spain. Coen began with DIY dipole experiments in 1984 and moved to full ribbon designs in 2016. Alsyvox states that the model is meant for smaller rooms, and that it was not designed to be cheaper, since it uses the same parts as the larger models in a reduced footprint. The North American price is USD 90,419.
Key specs that matter
This is a 3-way magnetostatic dipole with ribbons in every band. A single woofer ribbon 280 mm wide provides 3,052 square centimetres of radiating surface and has a maximum stroke of 18 mm. Above it are a mid-tweeter 25 mm wide and a super tweeter only 5 mm wide, and the crossover frequencies are 750 Hz and 5,000 Hz. Alsyvox quotes a response of 25 Hz to 40,000 Hz, an efficiency of 93 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Each panel is 1.44 m tall, 0.58 m wide and 5.4 cm deep, and weighs 85 kg.
Engineering and use context
Because the ribbon panels radiate to the front and the rear, the maker gives a minimum room width of 3 metres, and the model is aimed at rooms of roughly 14 to 46 m2. A 20 m2 room falls well inside that window. The modest height helps in rooms with lower ceilings, while the slim depth keeps the visual bulk small. The standard Tintoretto can be upgraded later to Tintoretto X or Tintoretto XX by buying external passive crossovers, which move the filtering outside the panel without replacing the speakers themselves. The narrowing widths from woofer to super tweeter follow the rising frequency of each band. No cone drivers are used at any point in the design, so the entire range comes from ribbon elements sharing the same basic construction.
Pairing
With its high efficiency the Tintoretto can be used with practically any type of amplifier, valve or transistor, as long as it is stable with the low nominal impedance. Because of the long woofer ribbon stroke, the low end relies on panel excursion rather than a cabinet or port. Planning space for the outboard crossover boxes is sensible for anyone who expects to move to the X or XX version.
Alternatives
The Alsyvox Botticelli is the next ribbon floorstander up in the range, with a 22 Hz lower limit and 94 dB sensitivity in a 1.77 m tall panel.
