The SPRINT 4 is the tall 2.5-way model in the Sprint series of Revival Audio, a French company founded in 2021. The series adapts the tweeter and woofer technology first used in Atalante models to narrower enclosures. European pricing was EUR 1,799 per pair, and in the UK GBP 1,790. It shares its width and depth with the Sprint 3 bookshelf model.

Key specs that matter

Per cabinet Revival uses three units - a 28 mm soft-dome tweeter, a 7 inch mid/bass unit and a second 7 inch unit working as a bass woofer. The crossover frequencies are given as 1.6 kHz and 2.2 kHz. Response runs from 45 Hz to 22 kHz within 3 dB, and sensitivity is 89 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 3.8 ohm at 200 Hz. Power handling reaches 180 W at most, and the maker recommends a minimum of 30 to 50 W. Each speaker is 1060 mm high, 213 mm wide and 307 mm deep and weighs 20.6 kg. The recommended room size is 30 to 60 m2.

Engineering and use context

The tweeter includes ARID, an Anti Reflection Inner Dome patented by Revival, and both woofers use Basalt Sandwich Construction cones with three layers and a felt backing on the inner side. The MDF cabinet has two internal chambers, each vented through its own port, and bungs come in the box for closing the ports. The terminals accept a single cable run, and metal outrigger footers widen the stance. In a 2.5-way layout both drivers play the bass range together, while the midrange is left to the upper driver alone, which gives more low frequency output than a single woofer could without a separate midrange driver. The crossover was tuned by hand to get the most from the pair of woofers. The front panel is the ELYTRON baffle, an asymmetrical shape with curved angles worked out through extensive simulation, intended to control directivity and cut diffraction from the MDF cabinet edges. It attaches with magnets, so it is easy to remove or refit. Three finishes are available - Walnut, Blonde Oak and Matte Black.

Pairing

Since both the rated and minimum impedance are low, the speaker needs amplification that copes well with low impedance. Most modern solid state integrated amplifiers in the power range the maker recommends meet that need. The slim front makes the speaker a practical choice for living spaces where a wider tower would dominate the room.

Alternatives

Revival also builds the Atalante 4, a three-way floorstander with a dedicated midrange and two woofers.
