Floorstanding loudspeakers — MAGNAT Monitor S70

The MAGNAT Monitor S70 belongs to the Monitor S line as its three-way tower, a series of seven models that MAGNAT built around home cinema, including Dolby Atmos. Besides the S70 the line has a second tower, two bookshelf models, two centre speakers and a pair of dipole speakers. MAGNAT lists the S70 at EUR 349 per piece, and it is available in black or walnut decor, each combined with an anthracite front baffle.

Two 6.5 inch woofers work below a 6.5 inch midrange driver, and a 1.1 inch (28 mm) dome tweeter covers the top, all loaded by a bass reflex cabinet. MAGNAT specifies a frequency range from 19 Hz to 38,000 Hz, sensitivity of 91 dB measured at 2.8 V and 1 m, and impedance of 4 to 8 ohm. Engineering and use context

All drivers are Klippel optimised. The tweeter is a newly developed design with a fabric composite dome, and the front panel around it carries a dedicated sound guide for dispersion. The woofers and the midrange belong to MAGNAT's FE driver family, with coated paper cones, new phase optimised dust domes and linearised magnet systems, and each sits in a solid coated metal basket. The cabinet is a low resonance construction of E1 MDF panels. The Airflex reflex port has a rounded mouth meant to lower turbulence noise. The fabric grille can be removed, and MAGNAT packs resonance damping rubber feet with each speaker. Its crossover network is optimised for both amplitude and phase. Cables connect to a single pair of gold-plated, encapsulated screw terminals. In a surround setup it can work alongside siblings like the Monitor S14 C centre channel with two woofers and two woofer-midranges, the Monitor S30 bookshelf model for the rear positions or the Monitor S10 D dipole speakers with side-firing tweeters, all offered in the same black and walnut finishes.
