The G7 Tango is the middle passive model of Series 7 from Genesis Advanced Technologies, positioned between the Minuet and the Foxtrot in the brand's bamboo-cabinet entry range. The company traces its roots to Arnie Nudell, co-founder of Infinity Systems, and the Series 7 line is built in Washington State, USA. A US price list from late 2024 showed the Tango at USD 12,600 per pair.

Key specs that matter

Compared with the Minuet, the Tango doubles the mid/bass section to two 5.5-inch titanium cone drivers, while the treble is handled by a pair of 1-inch ring-radiator ribbon tweeters, one facing the listener and one facing the wall behind. Genesis rates the Tango at 86 dB for 1 W at 1 m, 4 ohm nominal, with low-frequency reach down to D1 (36.7 Hz). The input is high-level only, and a Soft/Bright tweeter knob gives plus or minus 4.5 dB of trim. Dimensions are H 1200 x W 305 x D 370 mm, and each speaker weighs 29 kg, with a shipping carton of 35 kg.

Engineering and use context

The reference Genesis models use a line-source ribbon midrange, which the company calls impractical for an entry product, so the Tango relies on solid titanium cones instead. Genesis explains that every metal cone has an oil-can break-up resonance set by its material, thickness, shape and size, and that outside this point the cone moves as a rigid piston. Its drivers are therefore used far below that resonance, and no damping compound is applied to the cones. The sealed acoustic suspension enclosure is made of bamboo-ply combined with MDF, and in the Tango the internal cavity is sized, shaped and filled so that standing waves settle at frequencies music does not excite. Bamboo was chosen partly on environmental grounds - it reaches maturity in 4 years, and the cabinets are assembled by US craftsmen near the Genesis workshop. The glues are water-based, and the plant-based wax finish is hand-rubbed rather than sprayed, emits zero volatile organic compounds and carries Greenguard Gold and Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification. Spikes on the integrated suspension frame set height and tilt, and longer spikes are offered for deep carpet.

Pairing

The Tango is one of the passive Series 7 models, and its manual calls for a direct run from the power amplifier's speaker-level terminals to the 5-way Genesis binding posts, with red as positive and black as negative.

Alternatives

The G7 Foxtrot adds two isobaric-loaded 8-inch woofers beneath a single titanium mid/woofer in a taller cabinet of 1350 mm and is rated at 88 dB.
