The Evo 2 is the second of four models in the Evo line from AudioNec, a French loudspeaker maker whose Evo concept is built around upgrading a system over the years instead of replacing it. It adds a sealed subwoofer section to the compact Evo 1 layout while keeping a cabinet the company still describes as compact, and it sits below the taller Evo 3 in the range.
Key specs that matter
Four drivers per speaker split the band. A super tweeter covers 10 kHz to 45 kHz, the DuoPole 31 wideband driver handles 400 Hz to 10 kHz, a 22 cm woofer in a bass reflex enclosure works from 35 Hz to 400 Hz, and a 28 cm subwoofer in a sealed enclosure takes over from 35 Hz down to 20 Hz. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm and sensitivity is 90 dB. AudioNec recommends amplifiers between 50 W and 400 W. Each speaker measures 46 cm wide, 115 cm high and 47 cm deep and weighs 76 kg.
Engineering and use context
The DuoPole 31 is AudioNec's own boxless driver. Its ultra-light diaphragm uses a vertical voice coil, has no spider, and radiates in free air as a dipole, so the midrange and lower treble come from a source without an enclosure behind it. The super tweeter is aligned for acoustic phase with the DuoPole up to its upper limit. Every driver in the Evo line sits in its own isolated cabinet made of high-density MDF, which keeps the woofer and subwoofer pressure away from the open wideband element. Internal wiring is 6N OCC copper, and four binding posts per speaker allow bi-wiring or bi-amplification. Two build variants exist. The standard passive version has an internal crossover hand-wired with 2.5 mm2 copper cable, while the Xtrem version moves the crossover into an external box so that components outside standard sizes can be used. The maker notes that multi-directional dispersion lets this still compact model serve larger rooms than its size suggests, and the sealed subwoofer box handles the deepest octave.
Pairing
The low impedance and fairly high sensitivity suit solid-state amplifiers inside the stated power window, and the split terminals allow one stereo amplifier for the upper drivers and another for the bass section. Owners planning to grow the system can later move up within the Evo modular approach.
Alternatives
The AudioNec Evo 3 is the next floorstanding model in the series, doubling both the woofers and the sealed subwoofers in a much taller cabinet.
