The One v7 is the seventh generation of the Qln One, the compact two-way stand-mount from Qln, the Swedish loudspeaker maker based in Gothenburg and founded in 1977 by Mats Andersen. The original One, first shown at CES in 1981, introduced the truncated-pyramid cabinet that became Qln's signature, and it has served as the smaller sibling of the Signature model since 1989. Qln began work on this seventh version after updating the Signature in 2022, and designed it for small rooms.

Key specs that matter

The One v7 is a vented two-way that pairs a soft-dome tweeter with a 5.5-inch mid/bass driver using a custom sandwich paper cone. Sensitivity is 86dB, quoted over the 100Hz to 10kHz band. The core crossover uses just two components, hard-wired with as few contact points as possible, and the terminals are WBT nextgen connectors made of silver-plated copper with minimal mass. The cabinet uses Qln's Qboard construction and is damped internally with natural wool.

Engineering and use context

The sloping front baffle sets the tweeter back relative to the woofer so their acoustic centres are aligned in time at the listening position, and the truncated-pyramid shape reduces baffle area and avoids parallel internal surfaces, suppressing standing waves inside the cabinet. The mid/bass driver's treated sandwich paper cone is coated with a special lacquer, and its underhung motor keeps the voice coil entirely within the magnetic gap throughout its travel, so the force driving the cone stays linear. A copper ring built into the magnet system gives symmetrical drive and lowers voice-coil inductance, reducing distortion, and the open basket lets air flow freely behind the cone without compression or turbulence noise. Qboard is Qln's multi-layer, damped cabinet construction, intended to reduce structural resonances that would otherwise smear the output in time, and the cabinet is also internally braced for rigidity. The bass-reflex port is trumpet-shaped, with flared ends that prevent air turbulence at high velocity. Every crossover component is soft-glued to damp vibration, and the internal cable is Qln's own design, made in Sweden, with a solid copper core around a polypropylene layer and an acoustic damping shield.

Pairing

With its two-component crossover and moderate sensitivity, the One v7 suits good-quality integrated amplifiers in small rooms, and rigid stands that bring the tweeter to ear level help the time-aligned baffle work as designed. A subwoofer can extend the bass in larger spaces.

Alternatives

Qln's own Prestige One is a larger stand-mount with a 177mm Kevlar woofer and bass extension to 42Hz.
