The NF-1 CX 6.5 is an active nearfield studio monitor from Logos Speakers, aimed at sound professionals. Logos Speakers is an Italian company, registered as an s.r.l. The monitor uses a two-way coaxial driver so that the tweeter and woofer share one axis, and among the NF-1 CX coaxial monitors it is the more compact of two sizes. Finishes are black or rosewood.
Key specs that matter
Logos fits a 165 mm woofer with a 34 mm tweeter mounted coaxially at its centre. The woofer and the tweeter are each powered by a dedicated 125 W RMS amplifier. Frequency response is 80 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB, measured at 1 m in full space on axis. Maximum sound pressure is 90 dB continuous and 97 dB peak at 1 m. Directivity at 10 kHz, measured at -6 dB, is plus or minus 60 degrees horizontally and plus 50 or minus 40 degrees vertically. The cabinet is a cube of 300 mm on each side, and each monitor weighs 12 kg.
Engineering and use context
On the rear, connections include two balanced and two unbalanced analogue inputs plus a stereo AES/EBU digital input on XLR. An asynchronous sample rate converter accepts digital signals from 44.1 kHz to 216 kHz. A stereo AES/EBU output on XLR passes the digital signal on, and a wire-type speaker output is also fitted. Internal processing is reached through an RJ45 socket and a web interface. Logos calibrates each monitor through that connection and then locks the settings, so the factory tuning cannot be altered by accident. Mains input is selectable between 110 and 240 V AC, which lets the same unit work in different regions. Logos intends the coaxial arrangement for close-range work at the mixing desk. The same inputs, outputs, network access and mains options are shared with the larger NF-1 CX 10.
Pairing
As a powered monitor, the NF-1 CX 6.5 takes balanced lines straight from a recording interface, desk or controller, and its two unbalanced inputs accept consumer-level gear, while the AES/EBU input takes a digital source. The digital output makes it possible to chain the second monitor of a stereo pair from one digital feed. Logos also builds the SUB 12 subwoofer for extending the low end below the monitor's own limit.
Alternatives
The Logos NF-1 CX 10 is the larger coaxial nearfield model, with a 254 mm woofer, 2 x 250 W RMS and a response down to 45 Hz.
