The Triangle Esprit 40th Comète 40th is a limited-edition bookshelf speaker made to mark the French brand's 40th anniversary in 2020. It follows the design of the standard Comète but adds the latest refinements developed for Triangle's Antal floorstanding model. The speaker is intended for rooms of 15 to 50 m2.

Key specs that matter

Rated bandwidth is 47Hz to 22,000Hz within plus or minus 3dB, and sensitivity is 90dB/W/m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, dipping to a minimum of 4.2 ohms. Power handling is 140W, and Triangle recommends amplifiers of 60 to 300W into 8 ohms. The anniversary edition comes in exclusive veneers - Golden Oak, Blond Sycamore and Santos Rosewood.

Engineering and use context

The Comète 40th uses two drivers in a reflex cabinet ported at the front. Its new tweeter uses a rose gold anodised magnesium dome, a material picked for its combination of lightness and rigidity, giving high efficiency with controlled distortion. The midrange/bass driver is also new, with a natural cellulose paper cone and a revised motor and suspension for a wider operating range. Triangle's DVAS system (Driver Vibration Absorption System) damps unwanted driver resonance. Rose gold detailing runs through the decoupling spikes, feet and the trim rings around the woofers. Each pair comes with an accessory kit of adaptable spikes suited to different floor types.

Triangle makes a dedicated S04 40th Anniversary stand for this model. It screws directly to the speaker for added rigidity, handles decoupling at its base and can be filled to absorb further vibration. The wide recommended power range means both modest integrated amplifiers and more powerful designs are suitable partners.
