The Elite Two is a two-way, closed-box loudspeaker from Nime Audio Design, an Italian maker founded by Nico Memoli that builds its speakers by hand. Nime describes the Elite Two as the outcome of careful technical planning built on its earlier Elite One, and the model made its public debut at the Munich show in 2015. At launch the price was EUR 18,000 per pair.

Key specs that matter

A 22 cm cone woofer works with a 3 cm ceramic dome tweeter in a sealed enclosure without a port. Nime rates the frequency response at 34 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB. Sensitivity is 90 dB and nominal impedance is 8 ohms. The minimum amplifier power is 20 W per channel. Each cabinet measures 1180 mm high, 500 mm wide and 700 mm deep and weighs 40 kg.

Engineering and use context

Inside the cabinet, thick steel reinforcements support the internal components, according to the maker. Nime states that uncompromised design and assembly quality became its trademark, and the Elite Two follows that approach with a heavy enclosure and a closed-box alignment rather than a reflex port. Both the woofer cone and the tweeter dome are ceramic. Finish choices include glossy white, lacquered black, matte black and satin steel, and the company also offers personalised lacquering to a customer's colour. At launch the standard finishes were white or black piano gloss.

Pairing

Given its modest minimum power figure, the Elite Two does not demand a high-power amplifier, and Nime gives no maximum power rating for it. At the same presentation Nime also introduced the Black Diamond, a passive subwoofer with a multi-faceted bass reflex cabinet, a 10-inch aluminium cone woofer, a 4 ohm impedance, a range of 30 Hz to 200 Hz and 175 W power handling and a sound pressure level of 88 dB SPL at 2.83 V and 1 m, priced at EUR 6,000. It is the brand's own low-frequency option for owners who want to extend a system built around these speakers.

Alternatives

Within the same catalogue, the Nime Mya is a smaller two-way design with Accuton ceramic drivers, a rear reflex port and an integral stand.
