Stratton Acoustics designed the Element 8 as a passive two-way stand-mount. The company is a British maker that builds and tests its speakers by hand in the UK. It was unveiled together with the smaller Element 6 at AXPONA 2025. Pricing is USD 25,000, GBP 20,000 or EUR 22,000 per pair, and each speaker comes on a matching aluminium decoupling stand, which is why the listed height is well over a metre.

Key specs that matter

A 200 mm (8 inch) bass-mid driver with a carbon fibre diaphragm works alongside a decoupled 29 mm soft dome whose output is shaped by a waveguide. The symmetrical third-order crossover splits them at 1.4 kHz. Stratton quotes a range of 48 Hz to 20 kHz, with output 6 dB down at 42 Hz, and a sensitivity of 87 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm, electrical phase stays within 55 degrees above 50 Hz, and group delay is under 14 ms. The maker specifies a minimum amplifier power of 20 W into 8 ohm. With its stand, one speaker measures 360 x 1,075 x 360 mm and weighs 38.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

The cabinet is not wood but an acrylic-silica reinforced polymer matrix, fitted with aluminium front and rear baffles, and the trims are CNC-machined aluminium. This material was chosen for resonance control. The enclosure is reflex loaded, but the ports sit on the underside rather than on the front or back, keeping the outer lines clean and giving more placement freedom. The port uses dual resistive vents, intended to reduce the distortion and resonance that ported boxes can suffer from. The standard finish is white polymer with chrome hardware and a gold waveguide. The waveguide around the tweeter and the low crossover point let the bass-mid cone hand over to the dome early, while the moderate phase angle and steady nominal load keep the speaker from being an awkward electrical load for most amplifiers. The stand decouples the cabinet from the floor and sets the tweeter at a fixed height.

Pairing

The minimum power rating and moderate sensitivity suggest an amplifier with comfortable reserves, transistor or tube, rather than a very small single-ended design, and the benign impedance allows a wide choice. Gold-plated bi-wire binding posts on the rear support separate feeds to the two sections, for example with a separate stereo amplifier for the bass section.

Alternatives

Stratton Acoustics also offers the Element 6, a smaller two-way model with a 150 mm carbon fibre bass-mid driver and the same waveguide-loaded tweeter.
