The Atalante 5 is a three-way reflex loaded stand-mount loudspeaker from Revival Audio of Alsace, France, and the bigger sibling of the Atalante 3. Styling work with A+A Cooren brought hand-selected walnut veneer, a belt and knot motif with a laser-etched logo and a removable two-piece grille. The launch price was EUR 4,490 per pair, and an inclined stand set at 8 degrees is included.

Key specs that matter

The quoted response is 28 Hz to 22 kHz at -3 dB. Sensitivity is 89 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 3.2 ohm at 110 Hz. Crossover points sit at 450 Hz and 3.5 kHz. Power handling is 200 W, and Revival Audio suggests starting from 30 to 50 W of amplification. The cabinet is 710 mm high, 420 mm wide and 355 mm deep, each speaker weighs 33 kg, and the recommended room size is 30 to 60 m2.

Engineering and use context

Three drivers split the band. The 28 mm soft dome tweeter uses the patented ARID, or Anti Reflection Inner Dome, technology, an asymmetric suspension, a proprietary RASC impregnation and a 100 mm ferrite magnet. The rear volume behind it has a resonance of 520 Hz. A 75 mm soft dome midrange uses the further developed ARID+ version, an inverted suspension and a 140 mm ferrite magnet, and was computer-optimised for a working band of 400 Hz to 5 kHz. Bass comes from a 30 cm woofer with a BSC cone, short for Basalt Sandwich Construction, a proprietary design layering basalt fabric, polymer adhesive and foam. Two rear reflex ports vent the woofer, and foam bungs are supplied to adjust bass output. The grilles attach magnetically and the front footer can be removed. Revival Audio states that all components, drivers included, are made in-house in France. The crossover follows the brand's Phase-Coherent-Fast-Response approach with Van Den Hul internal cable. Although the maker calls it a bookshelf design, the size and mass of the cabinet put it close to a small floorstander, and the supplied stand tilts it back to aim the drivers toward the listening position. Revival Audio was founded in 2021 by Daniel Emonts, an engineer with more than 30 years in hi-fi and Jacky Lee.

Pairing

The low nominal impedance and its dip in the bass need amplification that tolerates such loads and supplies generous current, so a sturdy solid-state integrated or power amplifier is the natural match.

Alternatives

The Revival Audio Atalante 3 is the smaller two-way bookshelf option in the Atalante series, built around an 18 cm woofer.
