Warwick Acoustics is a British maker of electrostatic headphone systems, incorporated in 2002 and based at MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. It developed the High-Precision Electrostatic Laminate (HPEL) transducer, and its Sonoma Model One was the first headphone system to use it. Beyond headphones, the company supplies electrostatic sound systems to the car industry, including the SV Electrostatic Sound system made for the Range Rover SV.
Range & what it's known for
Three collections form the headphone range. Sonoma Model One is an integrated package of headphones, amplifier and DAC, with an ESS SABRE Reference converter and a Class-A FET amplifier stage in the energiser. BRAVURA, named after the Italian word for brilliant performance, followed after three years of development as a drop-in replacement for the Sonoma headphones and runs from the same Sonoma M1 energiser, offered in silver or black. APERIO is the flagship system, and a special APERIO GoldenSound Signature edition was produced in collaboration with an outside listener. The HPEL panels are made from upcycled and recyclable materials and use no rare earth elements, which sets them apart from conventional magnet-based drivers.
Who owns it and where it's made
Warwick Acoustics Limited is a private company registered in England. It traded as Warwick Audio Technologies Limited until October 2018, when it took its current name. Its registered office sits at the Venture Centre on the University of Warwick Science Park in Coventry, while headphone and automotive work is run from the MIRA Technology Park site in Nuneaton. Design and engineering of the transducers and electronics take place in the UK.
The lineup in this catalog
Electrostatic headphones and energisers. A complete headphone-and-energiser system costs from about USD 3,000 to over USD 6,000.
Who it's for
Warwick Acoustics sells its electrostatic headphones as a complete matched system, with the DAC and energiser included rather than chosen separately. A first Warwick system is the Sonoma Model One or BRAVURA with the Sonoma M1 energiser, and owners of the original Sonoma can swap in BRAVURA headphones without changing the electronics. APERIO sits above them for buyers wanting the brand's top system.
