Est. year: 1979

Sanwa Supply is a Japanese maker of computer peripherals and accessories, based in Kita-ku, Okayama. Its roots go back to a small family factory, and the present business took shape in 1979 when the company opened Okayama's first microcomputer shop after signing an agency agreement with NEC. Audio is a side line next to cables, cases, mice, desk furniture and power supplies.

Range & what it's known for

The catalogue is about everyday desk and office gear at modest prices, and speakers sit among PC speakers, compact soundbars and Bluetooth units. The 400-SP120 is a typical example, a wooden Bluetooth soundbar about 40cm wide and 46mm tall with a built-in battery, USB power, 20W total output (10W x 2), wired input, microSD and USB memory playback and a microphone for hands-free calls. It is sized to sit under a 24-inch monitor or a TV of around 40 inches.

Who owns it and where it's made

Sanwa Supply is privately held and part of the family-run Sanwa group, led by chairman Tetsuya Yamada and president Kazunori Yamada. It plans and sells its products from Okayama and also runs a direct online shop, Sanwa Direct, where models carry the 400- prefix.

Who it's for

This is a brand for practical buyers who want a cheap, small speaker for a desk, laptop or small TV, rather than for hi-fi enthusiasts building a system. Within the range, the step is mostly from simple USB PC speakers to Bluetooth soundbars with a battery and extra inputs like the 400-SP120.
