Kuzma is a Slovenian maker of turntables, tonearms and phono cartridges, founded in 1982 by mechanical engineer Franc Kuzma and based in Kranj. The company began with the Stabi turntable and Stogi tonearm, and in 1985 it opened sales in Japan, a market it still serves. More than four decades on, it remains a specialist in vinyl playback hardware, with a catalogue that runs from compact decks to large multi-motor designs and air-bearing arms.
Range & what it's known for
Turntables sit in the Stabi family - Stabi S, SD, R, M and Stabi Reference 2 - with the XL DC and XL Air above them. Tonearms cover the Stogi S and Stogi Reference unipivots, the 4Point, 4Point 9 and 4Point 14, the Safir arms with a sapphire tube and the Air Line tangential air-bearing arm. The Stabi Reference of 1990 introduced a sandwich plinth of aluminium and acrylic with silicone-damped springs, while the 4Point of 2008 used a bearing built from four points instead of a single pivot. Cartridges with sapphire bodies, clamps, mats and damper feet complete the range.
Who owns it and where it's made
Kuzma Ltd is a private, family-run Slovenian company led by its founder Franc Kuzma, who left the Iskra electronics group to start it. Design, machining and assembly all take place in-house. In 2011 the factory moved to a 2,000 m2 site in Kranj, where the company also handles service and spare parts for older models.
The lineup in this catalog
Turntables and tonearms. The Stabi decks begin around EUR 5,000, and the XL models paired with long arms go well over EUR 50,000.
Who it's for
Kuzma is meant for record collectors who prefer to source deck, arm and cartridge from a single workshop and plan to stay in one system for years. A Stabi S with a Stogi S arm is the usual starting pair, with a later upgrade path to a 4Point or Safir arm, add a second arm on a larger Stabi, or go to the XL platforms with their separate motor units. It also makes sense for owners of older Kuzma decks, since the factory still supports them.
